The journey through the forest was silent, the only sounds the rustling leaves and the occasional distant cry of a night creature. Elara's heart pounded in her chest, a steady rhythm of fear and defiance. She stumbled once, her foot catching on a root, but Lukas's grip on her arm kept her upright. His touch was unyielding, a constant reminder of her captivity.
Kael and Ash flanked her, their expressions inscrutable. Kael's dark eyes held a storm of emotions, while Ash's smirk barely masked the wildness beneath. Their presence was both reassuring and terrifying, a paradox Elara struggled to reconcile.
As they moved deeper into the forest, the trees thickened, their branches intertwining to form a canopy that blocked out the moonlight. The path narrowed, and the air grew colder, carrying the faint scent of earth and pine. Elara shivered, but whether from the chill or the palpable sense of danger, she couldn't tell.
Eventually, they emerged into a clearing. A large, rustic mansion stood at its center, its wooden walls blending seamlessly with the surrounding forest. Soft light spilled from the windows, casting a warm glow onto the grass. Despite its inviting appearance, Elara felt a surge of apprehension.
Lukas released her arm and stepped forward, his posture commanding. "Wait here," he instructed, his voice brooking no argument. He disappeared into the mansion, leaving Elara with Kael and Ash.
Ash leaned against a nearby tree, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "So, what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"
Elara shot him a glare. "I told you, I'm looking for answers. People are disappearing, and no one seems to care."
Kael's expression softened slightly, a flicker of sympathy in his eyes. "It's not safe for you here. There are things in this forest you can't begin to understand."
Elara crossed her arms, trying to mask her unease with defiance. "Then explain it to me. I'm not leaving until I know what's happening."
Before either man could respond, the mansion door swung open, and Lukas reappeared. "The King Alphas will see her now."
Ash's smirk widened. "Good luck, sweetheart. You're going to need it."
Kael shot him a warning glance before turning to Elara. "Stay close and do exactly as Lukas says."
Elara nodded, her resolve hardening. She followed Lukas into the mansion, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination. The interior was surprisingly spacious, with wooden beams and a large stone fireplace. The air was warm, carrying the scent of burning wood and something she couldn't quite identify.
At the far end of the room, three men sat in high-backed chairs, their presence commanding attention. They were older and much bigger than Lukas and Ash ,their dark hair streaked with silver, but their eyes were sharp and assessing. Power radiated from them, filling the room with an almost tangible force.
Damon approached the men and bowed his head. "King Alphas, we found her near the border. She claims to be looking for answers about the recent attacks."
The central Alpha, whose eyes were the color of storm clouds, leaned forward. "And you thought it wise to venture into our territory alone?" His voice was deep, resonant, carrying a weight of authority that made Elara's knees weak.
She swallowed hard, meeting his gaze with as much courage as she could muster. "I didn't have a choice. No one in the village believes there's anything supernatural going on, but I know there is. I need to know what's happening."
The Alpha to his left, with piercing blue eyes, chuckled darkly. "You're either very brave or very foolish, Miss Thorne. Perhaps both."
The third Alpha, his gaze like molten gold, remained silent, his expression unreadable.
The central Alpha rose from his chair, his movements fluid and controlled. "There are things at play here that are far beyond your understanding. But you've shown determination and courage, qualities I can respect. However, you've trespassed on our land, and that cannot go unpunished."
Elara's pulse quickened. "Then you'll help me?"
The Alpha's lips curved into a faint smile. "Help you? No. But you will stay here, under our watch. You have entered our world, and you will not leave until we see fit." The Alphas smiled a little bit
Panic surged through her. "You can't just keep me here! I have a family and friend in the village "
The Alpha to the left stood, his blue eyes glinting with amusement. "Oh, but we can. You're in our territory now, and you will follow our rules."
The golden-eyed Alpha finally spoke, his voice smooth and cold. "You will stay with us, and you will learn. It is the only way you might survive."
Lukas's expression was serious as he gestured for her to follow him. "We have a lot to discuss, and you have much to learn about our world."
Elara followed him out of the room, her thoughts swirling with a mix of fear and anger. The path ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear: she was no longer just a curious outsider. She was now part of the Alphas' world, bound by their rules and at their mercy.
