I stared at the bank alert and assumed Serena had frozen a card to punish me. It was petty, and it was easy to fix. Tomorrow I would buy her a larger necklace. That had worked before. Dr. Evans rushed into the private waiting room. “She's rejecting it!” His hands shook as he held out the chart. “Lily is having a severe anaphylactic reaction. We need a direct transfusion, Adrian. We need your wife here. Now!” I called Serena.
