Paislee
I can’t believe he’s making demands like this! Who the hell does he think he is!? Paislee is livid as she stares at Luke. His whole body is taut with anger, his eyes are flipping back and forth between he and Jax.
"Paislee?", Tyler asks cautiously. She looks over at him, this giant teddy bear of a man she now calls her brother. He looks sad, almost. "He's right. Please come home", he pleads.
Luke's phone dings in his pocket. As he reads the text, his face turns bright red. He clutches the phone so hard that it snaps in his grip, slicing his hand. Paislee jumps up to get something to wrap his hand in as Ivy collects the pieces of his phone from the deck floor. "What's going on?", Paislee asks nervously.
"She's gone", he growls. Tyler jumps up from his chair, his eyes are flashing. "Abby?", he asks, his voice unnaturally high. Luke nods and grabs Paislee's hand with his and yanks her inside. "You're coming with me right now".
"What about Ivy?", Paislee wails. "She can come, too. I need you to pack", Luke growls forcefully. This is a side of of him that Paislee has never seen, and she does not like it one bit. He's always been gentle and kind with her, but right now he's rough and angry. "Luke, you're hurting my wrist!", Paislee yells, yanking her hand away from him.
Luke slowly turns to face her, and his shoulders slump. "Now is not the time to be difficult, Paislee", Luke warns. She feels Tyler come up behind her and he puts his hands on her shoulders. She can see by Luke's face that he's in mind link, probably with Tyler. Luke takes a step forward and bares his teeth. Paislee's eyes widen in horror when she realizes that he and Tyler might scuffle. "I'm going!", she yells. Turning to Tyler she puts her hand on his arm. "I'm going", she whispers before she stands on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek.
Tyler's face is contorted. She's not sure what he's feeling right now, but Luke's anger is rolling off of him in waves, lapping at her very soul. "Ivy? Can you come help?", she calls, not taking her eyes off Luke. "You two stay here", she says firmly as she and Ivy scurry up the stairs.
"That was intense", Ivy breathes. "I know. He's like an entirely different person", Paislee whimpers as tears threaten to form.
Her room has been tossed. Paislee stands at the doorway, taking in the mess before her. How am I ever going to find anything? Ivy steps past her into the room and begins to pick through a pile of clothes, pulling out the newer items she recognizes from their shopping trip. Sighing, Paislee crumples to the ground beside another pile, searching for things that fit.
"Are you coming to the packhouse?", Paislee asks once she's sure she won't cry. "How on earth will I explain that to my parents?", Ivy asks, her eyes wide. "Tell them you girls are going on vacation!", Luke shouts from the bottom of the stairs. Paislee rolls her eyes, and continues to pick out clothes. She'd forgotten that werewolves hear everything. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to do, Ivy", Paislee whispers.
"Defying him seems scarier than meeting up with Abby again", Ivy whispers back, not looking at Paislee.
Luke
Terror is coursing through his veins, and Paislee picks now to challenge him? Luke is so angry right now at Abby. He can't figure out how she found Paislee, but he's going to tear her to shreds when he finds her, Beta female or not.
Luke drives silently towards the packhouse, Paislee is sniffling beside him in the passenger seat, refusing to look at him. Tyler drove Ivy to her own house in Bill's Cadillac SUV to allow her to pack, and they'll meet them at the packhouse.
"Paislee, I -", Luke begins softly. "I don't want to hear it. You're basically taking me prisoner", she huffs. Luke reaches for her hand and she yanks it away, crouching against the door. The one he waited for his entire life won't look at him, or speak to him. Why doesn’t she understand? Luke runs his hand through his hair and grips the wheel tighter. If anything were to happen to her… he chokes up a little just thinking about it.
Luke presses his lips into a grim line and furrows his brow.
When they arrive at the packhouse, his father is waiting with Sam, Trevor and Lucy. Sam rushes to the truck and yanks the passenger door open. "Paislee! Are you alright? Let me see you!", his face is flushed and he looks pained. Paislee unbuckles her seatbelt, and Sam scoops her into a hug. "I'm so sorry", he chokes.
Luke is unnerved by how easily she wraps her arms around Sam and hugs him back. "I'm okay, Tyler saved the day", she murmurs, stroking Sam's back. Sam sets her down and glares at Luke, but he looks away. Luke busies himself unloading the suitcases and Trevor comes to help. Sam wraps his arm around Paislee's shoulders and leads her inside.
“You in some kind of trouble?”, Trevor links him, raising an eyebrow. “Apparently”, Luke links back with a shrug. "Let's take this to my office", Michael says softly as he pats Luke's shoulder.
By the time Luke and Trevor unload Paislee's bags into his suite and get to Michael's office, Ivy and Tyler have arrived. Sam still has his arm around Paislee, and he's murmuring to her.
"So. Where do we think Abby has gone?", Michael asks. "What I want to know is how she managed to get away", Luke interjects with a glare at Trevor. "Whoa, hold up. I don't think that's important right now", Michael raises his hand. "I left her in dad's office for him to deal with", Trevor says, hanging his head. Lucy rubs his back and shoots daggers at Luke.
"She probably is making her way to Black River pack to tell them that the treaty is broken", Sam pipes in. "If you'd kept your d**k in your pants, the treaty wouldn't be broken", Trevor blurts out. Paislee's eyes grow wide and Sam crushes her into him, rocking her. "Trevor!", he yells.
Luke flies across the room and grabs Trevor by the throat. "If he'd kept his d**k in his pants, we wouldn't have Paislee, and I'd be without a mate", Luke hisses, spit flying. Tyler approaches Luke from behind and grabs his arm, staring Luke down. Everyone is standing except Sam and Paislee, who is whimpering softly into his chest.
"I think it's time you leave", Luke says, releasing Trevor. How dare his Beta disrespect his Luna like this! Trevor slumps back down into his seat, choking and coughing. "Luke, what the hell! Who are you right now?", Lucy shrieks.
"Paislee, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way", Trevor says softly, standing. "Maybe it's you who should leave", Lucy glares at Luke.
"Enough!", Michael pounds his fist on the desk, "Every one of you sit. Down. Now!", he roars. "We are wasting precious time playing the blame game instead of strategizing. Our Luna is in danger", Michael says as he shrugs off his anger and takes his seat.
"You're all talking about me like I'm not even here", Paislee says as she wriggles free from Sam's arms and stands. "You call this a mate?", she waves one arm around, glaring at Luke, "You just made me your prisoner!". Luke is shocked, staring back at her. He reaches for her and she stomps to the door. "I don't know who this is", she waves circles at him, "But I don't want him for my mate!", she yells and wrenches the door open and storms away.
Luke stands and Ivy waves her arm across his chest. "I think you've done enough", she seethes before following Paislee out into the hall, closing the door behind her. Luke stares at the closed door, heartbroken.
"Luke, this behaviour is unbecoming of an Alpha. It's time for you to sit down and shut up", Michael growls. Luke can't believe his ears, and he looks wildly around the room for a friendly face. Everyone is glaring at him. His mate, the love of his life, his everything is in danger and they're all mad at him?
"I'll reach out to Alpha Simon at Black River", Sam says softly. Michael nods, "I'll get in touch with Alpha Robert. He'll want an update. Let's get round the clock protection for Paislee and Ivy, and double our patrols. Trevor and Tyler, take care of it. Something tells me we're in big trouble".
Michael rubs his eyes with his thumb and forefinger. "Everyone is dismissed", he sighs. Luke stands to leave and Michael links him, “Stay back, son”, Luke slumps back into his chair and watches everyone leave.
"Son, I know you're frightened and it's coming out in anger. But you're scaring Paislee, and pi**ing off everyone you love", Michael says sternly. "Pop, I -", Luke begins, and Michael holds his hand up. "Just think about it. Can you do that?", he asks in a softer tone. Luke nods glumly. "Go to the office tomorrow. She needs her space", Michael adds.
Paislee
Ivy catches up with Paislee in the hallway. Luckily they're on the Alpha floor, so there isn't anyone around to witness her ugly crying. "Paislee, wait", Ivy says gently. "Can I stay in your room?", Paislee asks through her tears. Ivy bites her lip and then nods, "Of course you can".
Ivy leads Paislee down the stairs and in to her room, closing the door softly behind them. Paislee throws her arms around her and sobs, her whole body wracked with angst. Ivy says nothing as she strokes Paislee's hair, hugging her back tightly.
Ivy leads Paislee to one of the chairs in the room, and eases her into it before pulling the other chair up close. Ivy takes Paislee's hands in hers and looks into her eyes. "He loves you", she tells her. "He's treating me like I'm his possession", Paislee pouts. Ivy sighs and drops her head for a moment. When she raises it, she answers, "I know, honey. He's scared". "I'm scared too!", Paislee wails.
There's a soft tap on the door and Ivy rises from her chair. She opens it a crack before nodding and opening the door all the way. Tyler steps into the room looking pained as he strides toward Paislee. He takes her hand in both of his and looks down at her and then crouches next to her chair. Tyler puts his head in Paislee's lap and she runs her hand through his hair to try to soothe him.
“Trevor didn’t mean it”, he whispers. Paislee sighs but says nothing. Are you sure about that? “I have to go arrange for your protection”, Tyler says after a while. He kisses Paislee’s cheek and shoots a meaningful glance at Ivy before striding back out the door.
“He really loves you”, Ivy says when she’s sure he won’t hear. Paislee smiles softly and nods, fidgeting with her hands in her lap. “Did you two talk on the ride here?”, Paislee asks, changing the subject. “He’s taking me to dinner tonight”, Ivy answers hesitantly, “He said that there are things I need to know, and that was pretty much it. He was pretty upset with Luke and stressed about you, I could tell. He doesn’t talk much to begin with, so I didn’t want to push”.
“Want me to see if Lucy will come hang out with you?”, Ivy asks softly. Paislee shakes her head. “I haven’t been alone in like a week. I’m looking forward to it”, she smiles weakly.
