Chapter 5 You are such an arrogant jerk

She didn't do supernaturals, but man, was he hot. "I couldn't help but notice you checking me out earlier," Adrian said. Ava smiled. Confident, she admitted. "As you were, me," Ava replied. "Of course," he said. "You're a gorgeous woman." "Is that supposed to make me blush?" Ava asked. "No, but this is," Adrian said. He reached for her ear and whispered. "You look absolutely f**k-able tonight. Why don't we experiment? First person who makes a sound while we're at it loses." Ava did blush. She was usually so direct but she's finally seen someone to give her a run for her money. A small smile spread across her face. And boy, did his voice have her insides tingling. "Do you have a car?" Ava asked then. He looked like he came from money-lots and lots of it- Ava knew, and the question seemed to be wasted on an answer she most probably knew. Adrian had a slightly perplexed look on his face. "Yeah. Why?" "I need a ride home." It seemed that Ava was using the werewolf to get herself home, because that was what she was doing, but in her defence, it's not like he was complaining. They did not talk much during the ride, but Ava watched him, wondering if he knew that she knew what he was; had sensed it. She wondered if he knew that she worked for the RCA. Was he a rogue? She didn't think so. He seemed to come from nobility; the elite set- her type, but for some reason, she seemed uncertain with him. It seemed like her life was going to change that night. She would meet someone that unlike the rest would be difficult to erase from her memory: a one-night stand she would be truly disappointed that that was what it was. Ava turned her mind to the man beside her. "Are you from around here?" She asked. "No," was the simple response. "Where then?" She had to give him ample room to lie to gauge how much he assumed she knew about him. "Another city," Adrian said. "I'm here on business." "Hmmm," Ava said. She did not want to ask more personal questions because she would have to reciprocate- answering personal questions directed at her. But Adrian asked her anyways, despite being tight-lipped when it came to him. "Under that makeup, how old are you?" Ava felt annoyed somewhat. "Twenty-one, why?" She asked. "I don't look adult enough?" She was gorgeous and charming but she had a small body that many often underestimated and she was not so tall. Kayla was taller than her, even though it was only by a few inches. "You think like a child," Adrian replied. And how did he arrive that conclusion? Ava thought in annoyance. The car stopped before her apartment building and she got out of the car and banged the door close. Adrian leaned out of his window. "Nice apartment," he said. "Won't you invite me in?" "In your dreams," Ava responded. "So you used me to transport yourself home?" Adrian asked, a small smile tugging his lips. "You knew. You let me," Ava replied. "You're angry I said you think like a child Ava," Adrian said. "But that is the truth. You have a one-track mind. You don't think up complex solutions to complex problems. You're either fight or flight. Either you stay or you run away. But presently, you would rather run away than face an issue head-on... like your present attraction to me." Ava watched him quietly. "You are such an arrogant jerk," she said. But she did invite him up. As soon as the door closed, his lips had claimed hers and his hands were over her body with insistent need. The next morning, loud knocks awoke Ava from sleep. She glimsped the time on the clock and saw it was about eight am. She felt a hangover induced headache creep up her head as she made her way to the door. Kayla was there. Kayla was in her pyjamas. Ava had thrown on a huge T-shirt and wide shorts on her way to the door. She let Kayla in through the unlocked door and grabbed a drink of water. Kayla made a motion towards the bedroom where Ava had come from, a weird expression on her face. Ava shrugged. She had no idea what Kayla was trying to tell her, not until she used her words, that is. "Is he inside?" Kayla whispered. "Who?" "The hot guy you were trying to seduce at the club." More like avoid... And then it occurred to Ava. She rushed back inside her room and then came out. Nope. He's gone. "He must have left early," Ava said shrugging. Kayla looked surprised. "You let him go?" "What, should I have tied him up?" Ava asked. "He left on his own, long before I got up." Kayla looked disappointed. Ava leaned back on the couch she sat on. "So...what was he like?" Kayla asked. Ava rolled her eyes. "Mind your business," she said, and then she sat up. "Speaking of which, you ditched me because of your loverboy yesterday." "Sorry," Kayla said. "It didn't cross my mind that you didn't have a means of transportation back home." "Of course it didn't," Ava said darkly. "But someone brought you home, didn't they? It must have been the gorgeous man you must have been with yesterday." Ava let out a huge sigh. "Kayla..." "Tell me, how was he like?" Kayla asked again. "Arrogant," Ava said. "Conceited. Over-confident. Annoying. Every bit a billionaire bad boy. " And more...Ava sighed. A werewolf...But he was gone now. As was consistent with the rest of his character, he had left without a single word of goodbye at least. He had left even before she woke up. "Good riddance," Ava said then. "Was he at least...good?" Kayla asked. A guilty smile crept up Ava's lips. "Yeah," she admitted. "Very." Kayla let out a long laugh. "You are such a hypocrite. You like him." "It doesn't matter. He's gone now," Ava said. "Enough about me. Tell me about your new date."
