Needed Part 1

514 Words
Avery Perkins slowly made her way down the aisle of the small plane, her blue eyes searching for her seat, 16F, an aisle seat. Avery couldn’t stand the thought of being trapped in anyway, ever since she was a little girl, and today of all days- she wouldn’t allow herself to feel trapped.  Avery was flying to Tulsa, Oklahoma. She had never imagined going there for any reason, she didn’t even really know what was there for a “tourist” to see- but then again, Evan was the only thing she had any desire to see.  Avery had three days to spend with Evan, three days to figure out if what they had was real or just a romanticized memory. Three days to find out if he felt the same way she did- after a decade of missing him she was going to have him all to herself for THREE. WHOLE. DAYS. All she had to do was make it through this flight. She was going to visit Evan because he was her best friend and that b***h, Sara, had broken his heart and left him alone in a city where he knew no one except for the guys he worked with. He was hurting, and lonely, and Avery and Evan had made a promise to each other- no matter what was going on in their lives, even if they are married to a jealous spouse, have kids, had a fight and weren’t speaking, NO MATTER WHAT- they would be there for each other if they ever needed the other, and he had said he needed her....  Avery found her seat, and was pleased when no one took seat “E” next to her. She had the tiny row to herself and could stretch out. “I might as well take a nap,” she thought to herself, “I’m hoping not to get much sleep tonight.” She blushed at the thought, trying to scold herself- she didn’t want to have expectations or be disappointed, but she couldn’t help but smile a little at the memory of the last time she got to spend a night alone with Evan..... The last time he has said that he needed her.  ******************************************************************************************************************** 8 Years ago... Avery was driving along in her little Honda Accord, singing loudly along with her favorite song, Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend," when her song was interrupted with the sound of her best friend Evan's ringtone coming through the car's speakers.  "What's up, loser?" she answered, in typical fashion.  "Avery.... are you busy tonight? Can I come see you?" Evan's voice sounded soft, and... SAD. What in the world was going on?  "I've got nothing going on, of course you can come over, what's going on?" Avery responded.  "I'll tell you when I get there, I'm just having a hard time, and... I need you." Avery was shocked at the sorrow and need she heard in his voice, this was serious. Evan was always lighthearted, and fun. It was rare that he got serious with her, and usually when he did, it was about how she needed to quit mooning over her loser ex boyfriend and get her sh*t together.
