"You need to understand what you're signing," Mabel Duncan said, spreading the plea agreement papers across the metal table in the visitation room. "This is an admission of guilt. Once you sign, there's no taking it back."
I stared at the documents. The State of [State] v. Sabrina Norman. Plea Agreement for Murder in the First Degree.
"Life with possibility of parole after thirty years," I said flatly. "You already explained it."
"Yes, but there's more." Mabel tapped a paragraph near the bottom. "You'll have to allocute—that means tell the court exactly what you did and why. In detail. In front of the judge, the prosecutors, the victim's family. If you can't or won't do that, the judge can reject the plea deal and send you to trial."
