MARTHA'S POV The courtroom was packed when they led me in, hands cuffed in front of me. I scanned the gallery, taking in every face. Reporters filled the back rows, cameras ready despite the no-photography rule. A few faces I didn't recognize-probably curious onlookers drawn by the scandal. And there, in the fourth row, was Silas. My breath caught. I hadn't expected him to come. Hadn't seen him since the day I was arrested, when he'd walked past me without a word as the police shoved me into their car. He looked terrible. Thinner than I remembered. Dark circles carved under his eyes. His suit hung loose on his frame like he'd lost weight and forgotten to buy new clothes. But he was here. Our eyes met for just a second before he looked away, his jaw tight. Then I saw her. Millie.
