Always in the way." My heart hammered against my ribs. "Sabrina, put down the knife." "Why? So you can run to the police with your lies?" She took a step toward me. "I've spent twenty years building a life. I'm not letting you take it away." "You already lost it. Martha's in jail. My father's in jail. You're broke and alone." I backed toward the door, trying to keep my voice steady. "Killing me won't change any of that." "No. But it'll feel good." Her laugh was hysterical. "You think you're so clever, coming here, trying to trick me into confessing. But I've dealt with cleverer people than you.
