“Alright James, you ready?” I asked as I held the key up to the lock. He eagerly nodded as he gripped Aldessa’s hand. We were finally ready to allow him his freedom and we were more than excited.
I slowly slid the key into the lock and turned it until It clicked. I jiggled the handle and pulled the door open, Aldessa stepped through first with a bright smile on her face, and tugging James behind her. His energy was off the charts excited, but his nerves were just as high.
He took his first step out and paused to look at all of our eager faces.
“You’ll be okay son,” Leo said as he approached and wrapped James in a tight hug. He tensed up at the contact, but Leo only held him tighter before he relaxed. James opened his eyes and looked at me and reached forward, and I happily
