Chapter Ten: The Ball (Take Two)

Rheya POV

“Alpha Rheya! I’m so happy to be able to join you tonight!” Alpha Steven of the Gold Night pack said as he shook my hand. “What was the reason for the cancellation?” His Luna, Felicity asked me as she joined us, offering Leo and I a hug.

“That would be my fault,” Natalie said as she approached our small group. Steven and Felicity gave her a strange look.

“I, along with Amarantha and Iris were jumped and Amarantha and I were taken captive. Tortured for a few days and then luckily returned to our pack.” She explained to them. Both their faces dropped in sadness. They have been loyal to our pack since day one, and I was sure they would always be and alliance.

“Strong women you breed in this pack. I know damn well torture would get the best of me,” Steven said in a laugh. They were an older pack who had seen a lot in their time, so I knew he was only joking. We all laughed before they continued outside. Another Luna and Alpha approached, and we made our usual small talk and greetings.

After some time, the Alphas we were waiting for finally arrived.

Alpha Joseph was first to greet us. He was a few years younger than me but had grey streaks through his short blonde hair. His face was covered in a thin layer of facial hair, but it was well kept.

“Alpha Joseph, good evening to you.” Leonidas said as he shook both our hands. “Keep to your word Leonidas. No alliance talks.” He said as he shook his finger at Leo.

“This is not about that Alpha,” I spoke up, “You have children, right?” I asked and he nodded. “Genders?” I asked him and he looked at me confused. “Two boys and a girl. My princess.” He said in a proud tone.

“What if someone took her?” Leonidas asked. As expected, he went on the defense, what surprised me was his Luna growling at us as well.

I put my hands up in surrender. “It isn’t like that.” I said but they refused to calm down. “Our daughter, Nevaeh, was taken 4 years ago. We have no leads, and while we would love an alliance, we don’t need one, what we do need is help with any information that can lead us to Nevaeh.” I said and they relaxed, understanding the point of our questions.

We talked and they agreed to share anything they thought would be relevant. Amara and Dean took over the interview with them so that we were able to greet our next guest.

“Well, good evening Rheya.” Alpha Thomas said as he approached. He only reached for Leo’s hand who quickly gripped his and passed it off to me, forcing Thomas to shake my hand.

“That is Alpha Rheya, you forget this is her pack.” Leonidas said looking directly into Thomas eyes. Moon Goddess, I loved this man.

“Yes, excuse me Alphas, I forget this.” He said as he straightened himself up. He had 2 men with him, and a small girl stood behind him.

“You’ve brought your daughter with you?” I asked him, he shook his head and reached around, placing his arm across the girl’s shoulders. She flinched on contact; my instinct was telling me she needed help.

“This is my Luna, well future Luna.” He said proudly. I reached my hand out to the girl who happily greeted me with a handshake.

“I am Luna Lilith; I am pleased to meet you Alpha Rheya and Alpha Leonidas.” Her voice gave me the chills, it was almost robotic and forced for her to behave this way. “How old are you Lilith?” Leonida asked her, obviously feeling the same way I do.

“Sixteen,” She said and immediately Leo and I let out a growl. This caused our pack members to react and join us as back up.

“Aaliyah take Lilith here to grab some food. Thomas and I need to talk.” I said to Aaliyah and she immediately complied. One of the guard men ran to follow them, and I can only assume he was the Luna’s guard. Iris joined them as well, and I could see Lilith light up as she was surrounded by good energy.

“Thomas, please join me in my office for a conversation.” I said simply to him as I began to turn. “No thank you Rheya, and I’ll kindly take back my Luna now.” He said smugly. I quickly turned back on my heels and reached him fast as lighting. I reached up as much as I could and placed my hand on the back of his neck and forcibly submitted him. He tried to fight but the more he did the harder I pushed.

Eventually, I forced him to walk forward and marched him up to my office. Leo kept the guard from interfering and followed us.

Once we were in the office, I threw Thomas in and he landed on the ground with a heavy thud.

“A sixteen-year-old?!” I screamed at him. The once tough man coward under my authority. “It is not what you think!” He yelled out as he crawled backwards and covered his face with his arm, ready for me to strike.

“Then explain to me why you have a child bride!” Leonidas spoke in a harsh tone, causing Thomas to flinch back again.

“She is not mate to me yet! Her father was the Alpha, I was his Beta. Once he passed, I took over and once she turns 18, I will have her as my chosen mate. She has agreed to this. I promise you.” He replied with a terrified tone, “She has not been harmed or touched sexually.” He added and his extra guard, who was being held at the door by Natalie, gave a small smirk. I don’t think he knows I saw but it set off so many red alerts in my head.

I straightened myself up and took my seat at the desk, Leo followed, and I summoned Thomas to sit.

“Very well Alpha, it makes me weary having a Luna 30 years younger than you so please excuse my uncertainty. We will allow her to remain with you, but we will be conducting wellness checks on the child until she is of age.” I replied and Leo agreed as he held my hand, calming us both down.

“What?! It is my pack, and you have no right to intrude!” Thomas screamed as he stood up and raised his arms. In an instant Natalie had left her spot and pinned Thomas’ arm behind his back and his body against the desk. His guard was too stunned to move, watching his Alpha being taken down by a Beta, a female Beta.

I leaned down so my face was inches from Thomas’, Leo’s hand was resting on my back, helping me remain calm and collected.

“You forget my history Alpha Thomas, but I will not stand by anymore and allow packs to abuse little girls. Your very own guard gave you away with his little smirk over there. You also forget I have an alliance and command over every single pack except maybe a hand full. And the ones I don’t have an alliance with, definitely don’t with you. I can take you down in a second Thomas. So, with that, I will do as I please.” I said as I waved Natalie to release him and she obliged, stepping back to the guard.

“Now, let us return to the ball. I will speak to my sister; her pack is closer to yours and she will be the one in charge of Lilith’s wellness checks. Biweekly, you will drop her at the pack border and leave her for the night. That is an order, the first time you are late, we attack. Plain and simple.” I said as I walked everyone to the doors. Thomas was stunned and at a loss for words.

We all plastered fake smiles on our face as we returned to the ball and began our small talk as usual.

Lilith POV

“So, Lilith, you are a future Luna?” She asked me as we found a small couch to rest on. I nodded my head, afraid to speak and say anything. I was glad we took a break from walking, being locked up and not fed for a few days has made me weaker than normal.

“Are you a mouse?” The other girl asked me. I looked at her surprised. “Well, you are just so quiet,” She said in a laughing tone. I smile in an attempt to hide my laughter.

“Ahh there it is! A laugh!” She called out looking at the other girl. “Oh my gosh, I realize we have yet to introduce ourselves!” The first girl said.

“I am Luna Aaliyah of the Sapphire Pack!” She said as she gently shook my hand. “And I am Iris, Communications Expert and Fairy of the Scarlett Rose Pack.” She said as she pulled me in for a hug. She smelled like happiness, and it was weird, I didn’t know how to explain it.

“How do you two know each other so well then?” I asked them. “She is my sister in law, married to my twin brother. I am also Rheya’s sister.” Aaliyah replied with a smile.

“She is happy,” Iris said as she suddenly looked to Luna Aaliyah and placed her hand on her stomach. “Sorry, I am 9 weeks now and Iris always taps into my alleged daughters’ energy.” She says in a laugh.

“Can I feel?” I asked suddenly. She nodded happily and grabbed my hand and placed it on her stomach, out of nowhere I felt a small push against my hand. Luna Aaliyah yelped out in pain, and I pulled back my hand in surprise.

“That was her first kick! And boy was it a big one!” She said happily before her eyes clouded over. In an instant a man was standing behind her and reached down, placing his hands on her stomach. I watched as the man (who I assume is her mate) and her share a loving tender moment, I couldn’t help but feel like I was intruding. Iris just watched them with loving eyes.

Marcus was just watching from a few feet away with wary eyes. I gave him a reassuring nod, and he returned it with a small smile. He was so handsome when he was dressed up, even though it was a relaxed dressed up. He wore a plain long sleeve white button up with black slacks, it was simple, but the shirt was tight enough to show off his muscles. His bright eyes darkened as I stared him over and I realized he was doing the same.

“Would you be okay with that Lilith?” Aaliyah asked, her voice brought me back to the present. “What?” I asked, and I realized that Alpha Rheya and Alpha Leonidas were back, but Thomas was nowhere to be seen.

“My sister Aaliyah will be checking on you biweekly, to assure that you have proper Luna training. Only a true Luna can teach another what she will need.” Rheya said to me. “Yes, if that is what you want.” I replied to her as I tried to avoid eye contact.

She shook her head and sucked her teeth as she knelt down on one knee in front of me. “It is not up to what I want. It is up to you, I am simply suggesting it to you, but ultimately you decide your fate.” She said to me as she grabbed my hands tightly. I couldn’t help but get this warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of my stomach as I looked into her eyes. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it felt like she was hugging my soul. I gave her a small nod and she stood up with a bright smile on her face.

“Perfect!” She said as she jumped up, she turned to Alpha Leo and began to talk to him. “Lover boy, why don’t you dance with Lor? She has been waiting for her Daddy daughter dance, I’ll teach Lilith here a few steps.” She said as she gave him a kiss. He nodded and turned quickly and danced over to his daughter before sweeping her onto the dance floor.

Alpha Rheya reached her hand out to me and I reached up shakily and grasped her strong palm. She pulled me up like I was nothing and pulled me to the dance floor where we began to move about.

“I umm...I don’t know how to dance,” I mumbled as I almost tripped over her feet for the third time. She pulled me to her and leaned into my ear.

“No young person knows how to waltz. I just simply needed to get into a crowded area where I could keep you moving so I could talk.” She said, and she leaned back. I gave her a stunned look and she let out a defiant chuckle as she guided us to the other end of the dance floor. She spun me around but stopped me by grabbing my shoulders about halfway. I froze at the sight.

Two women were staring daggers at me, and I knew why, they were the ones in the cells.
