Chapter 9 - School

Chapter 9 The last month came with change to the Opal Pack. The first being that we had to bring the children together, and formed our first real school. Normally we are taught by our parents. But there have been the heavy scent of vampire in the area, and we need to more border watches, as well as to keep the children safe. I was put in charge of the school until we could get a proper teacher here. The first day, I decided to have an open discussion about what all the pups should have learned. The first lesson of any wolf is our history. “Welcome to our first day of school.” There was only about thirty children of different ages, and three of them are my nephew and nieces. “Since this is our first meeting, I thought it would be safe to start with where everyone understands our history. This will help me to learn who will be able to help me with the younger children, and which lesson you older teens will be needing.” They all nodded, trying to act like this was more exciting that it is. I watched a couple kids yawn, most would probably be sleeping since most children didn’t want to get up for school work until around this time, which put them starting class around ten. Though I required them up and here before seven-fifty. I needed them in their seats and attends taken by eight-ten if we were to follow a normal school day. “Let us start with, Rayne.” We spent the next hour go on about how Eva and Rayne became one, then how Jacob and Lupe. We talked about how much change came into the world because of these four souls. “Now, who knows name of the first born.” A young girl with blonde hair raised her hand, waiting for me to point to her. “Isabella was the first born, but she was born with her twin Lillith.” “Correct. Now, can someone different tell me what her pack valued most?” My nephew raised his hand, waiting for me to point to him. “Isabella valued her family above everything, but after her mate, Nathaniel.” “Can someone else explain, what does that mean?” I pointed to a young teen, I believe he was in the former beta family line, “It means that at the age of sixteen, your family would be able to wake up your wolf, but if you lose your family, your mate could wake it up, after the mate rights.” With a nod I looked at the children in this room, with a smile, “Why is a mate so important? Could we live without one?” Fae raised her hand this time, her brown hair covering her bright blue eyes, “That depends on your pack values. Matthew’s can, but Joseph’s pack wouldn’t be able to. The reasoning is that Matthew valued family, and love over everything. If your mate didn’t love you, or your family, you could safely reject them, without fear of being hurt. However, Joseph’s pack valued status, and they could reject a low status mate, but it would cost them great pain.” “Which pack do we come from?” There were a lot of blank faces, most packs believed saying we come from Matthew’s line was best, but some knew that admitting we came from one of the other ten was keeping our history alive. “Alexander and Evangeline.” The voice can from someone who looked like they had been sleeping. I believe he was our oldest student. “Correct. What did they value?” “Justice.” Each one of them said it at the same time, with conviction. We did in fact valued justice, it was almost like our motto. I smiled, at this class. “Now, which child was viewed as the black sheep of the family, and why?” There was a girl with red hair, long loose waves; her name was Bianca, “Joseph. When he met Karen, he did everything he could to make her feel like she belonged. Having lived a life without anything, she couldn’t believe that just because she was granted a wolf that she now had a family or status.” Her eyes looked around, before resting on the book shelf. “To make her understand, Joseph went against his family to prove to her that she had everything in the world. It resulted in his father disowning him, and his family, but somehow this proved to Karen that she had everything with him by her side.” “Oddly enough, the Corni line is from that pack line.” It was that boy who looked like he was sleeping, I think his name was Ethan. “Goes from destroy the family to untying all of the werewolves.” Irony was no lost on this kid. “Both of you are correct.” I had a bitter taste in my mouth at the thought of this. LeRoy was from this family, which explained why he dropped me so fast. “Which pack did the great protectors come from?” My niece raised her hand, which wasn’t a surpised, her best friend was from that pack, “Edward’s! The great warriors come from them.” Her eyes light up, that was where she wanted to go, to be a warrior, not a Luna. “Correct. Now let’s go ahead and each of us will go to the board, write a child of Eva and Jacob, their mate, or the pack value, in age order.” It took an hour, most because the mate’s names got confusing. But before we left for the day, we board was covered with the ten pack first Alpha’s and Luna’s, and their values. Isabella (twin 1) mated Nathaniel and valued family.             Lillith (twin 1) mated Gabriel and valued power, more of business power than control. Alexander (twin 2) mated Evangeline and valued justice. Taylor (twin 2) mated Nick and valued equality, while female and male, they had the most LBGQT children or pack members over time. Joseph mated Karen and valued status. Paul mated Melisa and valued family, adopting anyone who needed a family, mostly made up of former rogue wolves. Lisa mated Michael and valued skill, mostly in the way of cooking or crafting. Edward mated Kelly and valued warriors or protectors. Kevin mated Nicole and valued rank, not to the point of an alpha would reject an omega mate but respect whatever rank a person is. Matthew mated the human Rose and valued love and family. Looking at the board, I didn’t question the reason for the extra details, they made it easier for the younger children to understand what the value really means. Though they had been gone for an hour, I kept looking at the board. One couple changed the world, and their ten children and spouses changed it again. I finally got up and headed out of the building, making sure to lock the door. We placed a sign on the door stating it was only for wolves. This would keep the vampire out, and the kids protected. Unless Paul or I removed the sign, the charm would remain. It had been a long time since I had to work like this, and was hoping for a real wolf teacher to show up soon. There was no hiding that I wasn’t much of a teacher, even though I was trying my hardest. The classes would soon lead to training their bodies, meaning tomorrow would be the first day of PE. I can already hear them hating me.
