Chapter Two

CHAPTER TWO

In a dark corner, beside some buildings, a c***k with red magma moving to the surface. Heat vapours flowed out towards the cool cloud of the night. Elias arrived there as he went to check out the c***k, “A little c***k could destroy this world?” He asked himself as he analyzed the c***k, “A blow will end humanity”. He laughed to himself as he headed back home.

Rowland had just finished his night shift and was heading back home, so exhausted that he walked sluggishly to the edge of the road to take a cab to his apartment. Just then a truck failed it’s brake as the driver headed to a young girl of 5 years. The driver who struggled to avoid the little girl horned as his truck made it’s way to her, Rowland who saw what was about to happen launched towards the little girl. Screams were heard as people watched Rowland move into the scene and with all his strength moved the girl off the way of the truck. The both fell down on the road with the girl beside him. 

“What!” Elias shouted as he saw what happened, he ran to them and helped lifted them up, “Wow! You really saved her life” Elias said as he helped dust the little girl, “Well all lives are worth saving no matter what happened” Rowland said as he left the road and began walking.

These words struck Elias so bad that he followed Rowland, “Ehmm, can you please explain what you said back then?” He requested, “I can’t explain that right now because I’m so tired and all I need is sleep and quietness” Rowland replied stressing the sleep. “Okay, I think you should have my business card and call me, I need to talk to you” Elias said handling him the card, “CEO Delta I.T company?” Rowland said after receiving and glancing, “Yeah, give me a call whenever you are ready” Elias said tapping Rowland’s shoulder and walking away.

That night Elias couldn’t sleep as he reflected on the words Rowland spoke, “… All lives are worth saving no matter what happened” “Good people still live on earth?” He asked himself as he cuddled a pillow, “what does he mean by those words?” “He risked his life for that little girl?” He continued pondering over till he fell asleep.

His alarm woke him up as he gave out a yawn and went to get ready for the days activities. Fast forward, later in the day – in his office….

Mr. Kim walked in “Sir someone’s wants to see you” “okay” Elias replied as Mr. Kim left. In a few seconds Rowland entered the office,

   “Welcome you can have a seat” Elias said showing Rowland a seat nearby as he sat, “I wasn’t sure you would come around” Elias said with a smile across his lips, “Well, I was less busy today so I decided to honour ya invitation” Rowland replied, “Thank you so much” Elias said, “it’s nothing” Rowland replied. “What can I offer you, coffee?” “No thanks I’m okay”, “Alright, enlighten me” Elias said as he sat back prepared for the sermon.

   “I’m not a preacher I’ll warn you , all I have to say is that humanity has to be saved no matter what it has done. Some times when I look at the evil men do, I feel like crying or asking questions like where’s the Savior not that I’m blameless but in my own little way I help humanity and I don’t count their evil. Believe me, I’ve experienced first hand the evil of humanity, my dad was murdered before my eyes, my mom was forced to be a p********e just to raise us up but in all there’s always a few people who live rightly, who believe in goodness and because of them this world still endures, so who am I to pass judgement. For the sakes of the good ones like little children I sacrifice somethings for the betterment of humanity believing that one day this world will be a better place for all” Rowland said. Elias watched and listened to every word Rowland spoke keenly, he finally spoke up, “I’ve been educated, wow! Mr. Rowland you’re a priest”, giggling Rowland replied, “ I’m far from a priest Sir, I’m just a little man doing little things in faith”, “Faith?” Elias asked, “Yes Sir” Rowland replied “what’s faith?” Elias asked with a raised eyebrow, “The faith that the world will be better?” Rowland answered. “Uhmm… Okay” Elias said as he sat up, “Thank you for ya time Mr. Rowland” bringing his hands for a shake across the table, “no problem” Rowland replied receiving the shake. “What do you do?” Elias asked.

“Well, I studied data analysis in school but I could not get a job so right now I’m a plumber” Rowland replied still looking at the magnificent office. “What if you are offered a job here and this time not as a plumber but as a data scientist, I would you accept? “ Elias asked with a raised eyebrow. Happiness enveloped Rowlands face as he quickly replied, “Yes! Yes!! I will love it” and with a smile Elias took a piece of paper which was on his table, scribbled something on it and said, “pass this to the human resources manager, my secretary will take you to her”. Over whelmed Rowland took the piece of paper, stood up and bowed his head, “Thank you so much Sir. God bless you “, “he doesn’t have to bless me, just go get the job and be a good human “ Elias replied and Rowland exited the office as a bundle of joy, almost jumping every minute. 

   Days turned to weeks as the destruction of the world which was the assignment of Elias came close. The words of Rowland hunted him each day, his assignment became his nightmare. “This is a burden” he finally said one morning as he dressed for work, looking at himself in the mirror in his bedroom. “What’s a burden?” Lucifer said as he stood behind him. Elias turned around as he looked at him with a sad face, “why’s your face so pale? You should be happy the day of your assignment is fast approaching and you’ll return home” Lucifer said with hands in his pocket. “You always dress in Well tailored suits” Elias complemented, “Humans call it designers and thank you for your complement, I always pick the best because I’m the best” he replied with a smile which suddenly fades as he spoke, “Elias what’s the problem? I’ll ask again why’s your face pale?” “Do you read the mind?” Elias asked, “if I do, I won’t ask you” Lucifer replied, “Too bad for you but I’m worried” Elias said as he sat on his bed.

   Lucifer walked over to him and sat down too, “You can share with me”, “ You gave me a burden” Elias said, “How? I don’t really get you” he replied, “I’ve seen good in humans these past weeks and I’m still wondering why you want to destroy them” Elias said, “Because it’s in our hands to do that, the Creator doesn’t care for them anymore” Lucifer answered with a smirk, “and how do you know that?” Elias asked, “Are you doubting me? I’ll pardon this because you’re in a human body and it’s normal for a human to doubt so I’ll answer your question, if the Creator wasn’t tires of them, I won’t discover the path that would lead to the destruction, he would have hidden it from me”, “with all the good still left here? He wants us to destroy it?” Elias asked. “It’s unusual for you to act this way Elias, and I’m beginning to doubt your ability to carry out this tasks….” Lucifer stood up, “Don’t disappoint me, they would be repercussions”
