Chapter 13

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

   Rowland was by Rose’s graveside with a flower in his hands, “Hey Rose, I’m here again” he said talking to her grave, “I really don’t know what I’ll do to avenge your death because I’m human and your killer…” He sobbed, “… Is the devil and God is doing nothing about it. I’m beginning to feel that there’s no God just the devil and his demons. I’m feeling God is dead”.

 Tears began to flow freely from his eyes as he rolled the bouquet of Flowers in his hands, “ I’m here to see you because I miss you, the times we had together, your laugh, smile, your romance, everything about you. I just wish you could just come around and be with me even if it’s for a day.” He cleaned his eyes with his handkerchief and smiled, “Each day I wish we never knew what we knew, you’ll still be here with me. But right now I’m staring at you and wherever you are, I love you” he said as he dropped the flower on her grave, “Till we meet to part no more” he concluded leaving the cemetery.

 While walking along the road with his hands in his pockets, Raphael met him, “Hey” he said, “Hey” Rowland replied, “where are you coming from?” Raphael asked, “went to see Rose” Rowland replied, “okay” Raphael replied, “you know you really hurt God’s feelings”, “ Does he feel anything? “ Rowland asked, “Yes he does” Raphael replied, “he doesn’t, he doesn’t exist” Rowland said angrily, “Who do you think created the devil?” Raphael asked, Rowland didn’t reply, “Rowland I know you feel hurt and think God isn’t doing anything to avenge your death but believe me he is cooking up something”, “And how do you know that?” “Because I have a relationship with God and know whenever he’s silent and you think he’s doing nothing, he’s actually doing something”. “ Your words gives me comfort, who are you? “ Rowland asked, Raphael smiled and replied, “A friend”.

   Meanwhile in hell, noises roared in the atmosphere, murmurs of Elias name hovered around, “What is he doing here!” Reckon said as he stormed to the place rumored Elias was. Just at the corner, a crowd gathered around, in the middle was Elias. “What are you doing here?” Reckon said angrily as he entered the middle, “I’m here to see Lucifer” Elias replied boldly. Surprised wore the faces of the demons, “you’re really brave to come out here Elias, you know we can kill you right here” Reckon said, “and why haven’t you?” Elias asked, “it’s simple” Lucifer’s voice was heard as he waded his way through the crowd. “I want to destroy you myself” he said, entering the circle.

“Well before you destroy me, can’t you hear what I’m about to say? At least you’ll be reasonable enough to want to know why I came to a place which will be my destruction.” Elias said as he swallowed a gulp, “You have a point there” Lucifer replied, “My lord” Reckon interjected, but Lucifer motioned with his hand for him to be silent, “why are you here?” He asked, “I’m working with God” Elias said, a stir rose in their midst as whispers were heard, “What kind of deceit is this Elias, you of all people should know that you can’t deceive me, I’m the master of all dark things” Lucifer said with a smile.

 “It’s not a deceit, I’m working with God and that’s why I have the boldness to come here, that’s why the gates couldn’t hold me back, some how I was given the keys” Elias said with boldness, “If this is true don’t you think you came here for your destruction, like God wants to take you out so that you can’t go on with the job” the Devil replied with his hand on his chin, “You solve the math” Elias told the devil, “I’ve decided long ago to quit the job given to me and that’s why I had divine help. We can’t destroy the earth if God is still interested in them, no matter what we do, we just can’t. Come to think of it, everything that happened in earth to me, every time I spent there was created by God. I can see it clearly from my meeting with the human which you killed his lover, everything was preordained by him, we are helpless, he will always be a thousand step ahead of us because we are his creation and he’s our Creator. He knows everything, can’t you see we are helpless to him?” 

These words from Elias brought quietness in hell as they were heavy and needed to be absorbed. Lucifer became furious and left the circle, Reckon following suit. Elias watched as every demon who had surrounded him left one after the other, with a smile he thought, “How did these words come out from my mouth?”

   Aza and Dinia sat in a bar at the corner of the street, “it’s been 5 hours Elias left, I just hope he’s alright” Aza said drinking a bottle of beer, “he’ll be alright, I trust God” Dinia replied, “trust God?” Aza asked surprised, “that’s coming from a demon”, “ Yes, what’s wrong in saying that, it’s not that we have a choice “ Dinia replied drinking her beer, “That’s true” Aza said as he stared at the street, he saw Elias approaching, with a smile on his face, “Dinia, Dinia” he called, touching her hand which was on table.

Dinia and Aza ran towards Elias who was beaming with a smile, “what happened?” They asked, “I think I have to sit first” Elias replied and the both led him to a nearby seat, “I need a drink” he requested.

In a few minutes he was with a glass of vodka while Aza and Dinia sat close with itchy ears, “I think we’re going to be free” Elias spoke after gulping a glass of vodka, “how’s that possible?” Dinia asked, “What did Lucifer say?” Aza added. “He didn’t say anything, no one did…” He took another gulp, “…they just allowed me to go, as a matter of fact, hell was quiet when I spoke and it remained quiet as I left”, “does this mean something is going to be done?” Aza asked as he touched his chin, “let’s watch and see” Elias replied.

  Rowland who was sleeping suddenly felt a cool air across his face, he turned and saw Raphael, “Why can’t you guys use the door” he said rolling over to the other side of his bed, “we’re spirits, nothing holds us down…” Raphael replied walking across the room, “…but if you want me to knock next time, I will” he added. The human sat up, rubbing his hand on his face, “I’ll love that”, “you will?” The Angel asked with a smile, “Yes off course! What if I was naked when you appeared”, “Spirits don’t feel a thing and I’ve seen you naked since you were born, so there’s nothing there”, “What!” Rowland exclaimed, “you’ve been stalking me”, this made Raphael laugh before replying, “Get up and dress, we have work to do”.

  On the streets; the three demons walked with merriment written on their faces, “I wonder what he’s thinking right now” Aza said, “he’ll be probably thinking of his next step… He didn’t see this coming” Elias replied, “you know, if we were human, we would’ve been drunk from the amount of liquor we had at that bar” Dinia said as she belched. They all laughed

   “Where are we going?” Rowland asked the Angel, “to meet your demon friends” Raphael replied, “They’re not my friends” Rowland said, “You’re denying them? What are they?” Raphael asked with a raised eyebrow, “they’re just…just people I met due to coincidence” Rowland replied, “but you still call them “people” Raphael pointed out, “Ehmm… Uhmm… Yeah… That’s the only term I could classify them. You know using the “D” word is really frightening and weird” Rowland said, “To you” Raphael added, “and you get comfortable with them around you”, “I… I don’t… I just… I have no choice” Rowland said stuttering.

Rowland continued, “it’s just that I feel they can’t hurt me…” “Because they saved you once?” Raphael asked interrupting, “Well… I think so” Rowland replied, “and at that moment, what did you feel about God?” Raphael asked, “I didn’t feel anything, I wasn’t much of a believer but I thought at that moment she died, “God has forsaken me”. I felt discouraged on my beliefs as a little child” Rowland said with a smile, “but I was saved” he added, “by demons”, “demons you say?” Raphael interjected, “Yes! They weren’t Angels… None of them were” Rowland replied, “you need not forget that God will make your enemies at peace with you” Raphael quoted with a smile. “When was the last time you did something fun?” Raphael asked him, “something that’s not drinking or clubbing”, “Ehmm… I can’t remember” Rowland replied, “what’s on your angelic mind?” He asked, “let’s see what you guys have in this world… The golf club?” The Angel suggested, “golf? How do you know that’s my favorite game” Rowland said, “I’m an angel, you’ve forgotten” Raphael replied.

   Meanwhile in hell, Lucifer had himself surrounded with the high ranking demons in hell, “what are we to do, Lord Lucifer?” A demon asked, “I’m thinking about that” Lucifer replied with a scratch on his hair, “we have to do something fast” another demon suggested, “what can we do then? Am I the only one with brains here?” Lucifer asked, “why do you think I called this meeting? It’s obviously not for you to ask me questions but to make contributions” he said with anger in his voice. 

“Uhmm… I think I might have something but I’m not sure is going to be effective” Deamon who was seated close to Reckon said, “and what could be that?” Lucifer replied, “Ehmm… Since Elias and Aza has the divinity backing and we all know we can’t strife with the Father of light and with this recent development, we all know HE still cares for mankind, for us to not be destroyed, I think we should leave this project and count it as a defeat”. A murmur rose amongst the demons present, “how could you say that?”, “You’re weak minded”, “I can’t believe you said something this stupid”, “Deamon is a looser”.

 This murmur lasted for few minutes before Lucifer spoke, “silence!” He commanded, “someone brought a suggestion and you all are murmuring, crucifying him with your words. Did any of you give any suggestion when I asked for it? Did anyone counter his suggestion? No one did and you still can murmur?”
