Chapter 40

CHAPTER FORTY

Elias called Rowland’s phone twice and he didn’t pick up, “this is not good” he said pacing around the room. “Calm down Elias, you shouldn’t be worried like this” Dinia advised, “why shouldn’t I? Don’t you see we got our powers back for a reason? And I am scared to think of it” Elias replied. “Why don’t we speed to his house and check on him, we aren’t powerless anymore remember?” Aza suggested and at once the three ran out of the house in super speed.

Meanwhile Rowland had changed to the dress the priest gave him. He climbed downstairs and called, “Father?” but no one answered, “hello?” he said, looking around. Everywhere had become quiet, he couldn’t hear a single pedestrian walking outside. Just the sounds of dripping water that echoed from across the hall was heard

“where did this priest go to?” he asked himself as he decided to check around the church, starting from the confession chamber. Knocking at the door of this chamber he called out, “Father, are you in there?”. After waiting for a few seconds, he opened the door and found no one.

“Where the hell do this man go to?” he asked himself again, this time he prepared to leave the church after he had checked upstairs, “there are rooms up there, maybe he is in one” he thought, making his way to the stairs.

“Rowland is not home” Aza said as he ran out of a room. The trio were in Rowland’s house and they saw only Rebecca and her aunt as they slept. “Where did he go to?” Elias asked, “he should be home by now” he said looking at the wall clock. “Remember how we find a human when we were demons?” Dinia asked and the two men nodded, “then let’s find him that way. Remember we have our powers back and thus our sense of smell has heightened, so let’s sniff him out” she said with a smile

Elias liked the idea as he immediately ran off, after giving her a smile. The two followed suit. Rowland who was still alone in the church, decided to go home as he descended from the stairs. “I’ll come later to drop these clothes” he thought to himself and made his way to the door, passing pews well arranged

“Where.are you going? The priest voice resonated from behind. This made Rowland stop in his track and turned towards the direction of the priest slowly. “where were you father?” he asked, “had to go to the study, had a few things I needed to sort out” the priest replied. “and you stayed for a long time father” Rowland said.

“I’m sorry” the priest apologized. “So you are leaving already? I thought you would spend the night with me?” he added. “Well, father after talking to you, I feel happy and I can now go back home smiling”. After saying this Elias turned towards the door but the door was hard to open

“What is happening?” he asked himself as he tried forcing the handle of the door to open. Just then he heard the priest laughing so dry. “you are stucked with me” the priest replied, walking closer to him. Fear gripped Rowland as the once lovely and lively face of the priest turned into a horror and he had this wicked smile on his lips. “I don’t understand, what have I done to you to deserve all of this” Rowland asked as he was griped with fear.

Just as he was about being harmee by the priest, Elias broke into the church. There was no greater joy Rowland had than seeing Elias . The priest got surprised on seeing three people break into his church to defend one person

“Who are you?” he asked. Aza walked slowly towards him, he twisted his hand into a fist and gave the clergy man two punches at the stomach. Elias watched as Aza fought this man without asking for help. “Aza has grown more stronger” he thought.

Waking up the next morning in bed, Rowland was confused, “how did he get to his bed?” “did what happen really happened or was it a dream?” he asked himself, slowly getting up from his bed. He couldn’t answer these questions his mind seeked answer for. All he cold do is to go check on his daughter and make breakfast to begin the new day.

Just as he went down stairs, he met Elias, Dinia and Aza in the living room,. He was surprised but he hide it, I have to find out what happened yesterday” he told himself as he headed to his friends. Dinia and his sister were engaged in a female conversation, while Aza and Rebecca played on the ground with some toys. Elias sat quietly, legs crossed as he watched TV.

“Hey” he greeted Elias, who responded with a smile before saying, “hope you are feeling better?”, to which he got a reply from Rowland, “Yes I did”. “You seem not to remember what happened last night did you?” Elias asked and Rowland hurriedly answered, “yes”. “I was about asking you. It all felt like a dream” he added

“Well, it wasn’t. What were you doing at the graveyard?” Elias asked, “Graveyard?” Rowland replied, “I didn’t go to a graveyard, I went to a church” he answered. Elias smiled, shaking his head and replying, “you never went to a church and just so you know you were almost devoured by a hungry ghost, thirsty for human blood” Elias explained. “Has we not ce in time, you would have been dead meat” Aza added.

“But how? How did I enter a graveyard without knowing? Everything looked so really to me… like… like I was in a church” Rowland said looking confused and trying to figure out everything that happened that night. “You were hypnotized” Elias explained, “the ghost some how read your thoughts and knew you wanted to go to a church so he designed one for you”. “But what about the clothes I changed?” Rowland asked fixing the puzzle in his mind together.
