Chapter 24

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

“Lucifer, what… what…. What are you doing here?” Elias stuttered on his knees, “how does it feel to be powerless Elias” Lucifer asked smiling, “I heard you were human so I came to see for myself” the devil added as he laughed wickedly. “How pathetic” he cursed.

“What do you want from me?” Elias asked mustering courage as he stood to his feet, “Oh wow!” Lucifer exclaimed, “you still have your boldness” he commended. “You said you will leave us alone” Elias reminded him, “off course I did” Lucifer replied, “and I kept to it but as you should know, I’m the devil, father of lies” he said spreading his hands in pride.

Elias looked at him with pitiful eyes, swallowed hard and spoke, “so now you’ve found out, what will you do?” “It's easy, do what I would have done long ago” the devil replied as he disappeared.

Elias ran as fast as he could home, “we're dead! We are all dead!!” he shouted on reaching home. “Elias calm down, what do you mean by that?” Aza asked. Elias who was exhaling so hard talked between breathe, “I said we are dead, Lucifer is here, he knows about our being human”.

“What!” They both exclaimed, “how? Where did you see him?” Dinia asked shivering, “while I was strolling, I saw him, he came to me” Elias answered as he sat down rubbing his head. “We’re doomed!” Ada cried out as he sat down too, his legs could no longer carry him.

“What are we to do?”, “we need to think fast, what’s the plan?” these questions were thrown at Elias who looked as clueless as the two people asking these questions. “I have no idea” Elias replied sinking into his chair before he spoke these words in a whisper, “we’re all dead”.

 It was six o'clock in the morning and the alarm rang waking Rowland up. He got up from bed and went straight to the bathroom. While bathing, he whistled a song. It was Monday morning and he was glad Elias would resume work and relieve him of some stress.

“Good morning sir! Good morning sir!!” echoed as Rowland passed from the entrance to the company’s building to his office and with smiles he responded back. Getting to the door of his office, he noticed Elias' office door was opened. “Is he here already?” He asked himself.

A janitor passed by him and he tapped her, “please did you see the president open his door?” he asked her, “no sir” she replied, “I haven’t seen him today either” she added leaving him to his thoughts. “Then why is his door open?” he thought as he dropped his briefcase at the door and went to take a look.

On getting there, he peeped into the office before entering. There he met Elias who was fast asleep at his desk. Surprised, Rowland tapped on the desk lightly, waking him up. “Rowland you're here” Elias said cleaning his drooling mouth, “when did you get in here?” Rowland asked, “well, last night” Elias replied looking out of his office.

Just then he noticed people walking along the hallway, he asked, “what time is it?”, “10:45am” Rowland replied. “Oh! s**t! I have to get dressed” Elias said getting up to go to the closet in his office. Rowland wondered why he would leave his luxurious house and sleep in his office, “I’ll ask him later” he concluded as he stepped out of the office.

Meanwhile at home, Aza and Dinia called a CCTV company to install cameras at the doorstep and every other room in the building. “Can these pick up demons?” Aza asked one of the workers who was installing a camera at the entrance of the house.

“Demons?” the man asked, “sir, I don’t think it can. This is a camera and it is only few times was detects anything out of thee ordinary. So you would be lucky if it does but they are meant for physical beings”.

“Okay thank you” Aza replied swallowing hard as he watched the worker do his job. Dinia on her part wondered how installing these would help them. “Demons could penetrate walls, what will these do?” she asked herself. She remembered when she was on missions on earth and how she would walk pass traffic cameras and not get detected.

FLASH BACK IN HELL

Dinia was summoned by Lucifer, “Yes master” she answered bowing. “Your next mission, go to earth, choose a country and any street or major road of your choice and cause a road accident. It is about the time of the month we need blood”. “Consider it done” she replied bowing out.

ON EARTH

Dinia ran with supersonic speed, passing traffic cameras and causing road accidents. Humans screamed and cried as lives were lost. “Hearing the scream this way gives me joy” she said.

PRESENT DAY

On remembering this, She sobbed, “I killed a lot of people” she said as tears flowed out of her eyes like rivers. “I’m sorry” she muttered.

“What could be the problem?” Rowland kept asking himself as he watched Elias from a distance. “He is not himself. Something must be wrong and I have to find out.” Finally Elias was free and alone in his office, “this is my chance to know and find out everything” he said as he made his move to the office.

“Hey!” Elias said softly as he saw Rowland walk into his office, “what’s wrong Elias?” he asked. “I’m fine” Elias answered, “you can not tell me everything is okay and that you are fine when obviously you are not” Rowland insisted. “Believe me Rowland, if I tell you, you won’t be able to sleep and you would feel worse. I don’t want that for you” Elias answered.

“If you do not tell me, I will not leave neither will I let you be” Rowland said taking a seat. “After work, I promise” Elias replied smiling sadly. “Deal?” Rowland asked again, “yes deal” answered Elias.
