Chapter 27“At the library again?” asked Dane. “Well aren’t you a smart shit.”
“Dane,” said Sean, standing. He watched Kate’s expression change from embarrassment to something harder. Why a man as old as Dane thought it was appropriate to get aggressive with a teen, Sean didn’t know.
“Smart kid. A compliment, professor.”
Sean gave him a look normally reserved for an unruly student and passed Kate’s books back over to her. One of them had a dragon flying in the distance on it and he figured it couldn’t hurt to ask her what she’d picked up from all the reading.
“Smarter than some d**k who doesn’t bother to check anything out ever,” said Kate.
