Chapter 27: AntarcticaDeep in the mountain range in Antarctica, below the vast, white emptiness of snow, a room buzzed with life. The computers, between which a lone engineer would sit for hours on end to check, re-check, and double-check parameters, were now frequented by a dozen persons in lab coats. Hectically they moved between panels and computers, the likes of which hadn’t been used on Earth in decades. Frantically they checked the ship’s computer and its systems for anything outside the standard parameters. Everything else had been a test run; this was the race. The huge room was usually dimly lit, half hidden in darkness. Today the engineers and technicians basked in the lights from the computer screens.
