Moon's POV
“It would interest you to know that I don't give a s**t about that event. I want to find my mate, but you know what?”
“My search is over.” He uttered with certainty, and I still couldn't pinpoint where he was heading to.
“I'm all set. Shall we?” Lutha’s voice sounded from behind, and I heaved a sigh of relief.
“Not without her. Reach out to the stylist to get her a good dress and get the maids to dress her up.” He ordered, and I sprang up from the floor.
“There's a mix-up somewhere. I'm not the one you're looking for. Maybe you should go to the hall, you'll find her there. It's definitely not me, I'm only but Gamma Lancelot’s servant.” I reeled off without pausing to take a breath.
“Lutha, it’s an order.” He turned towards Lutha, and my words couldn't hold water anymore. Lutha left to do as he had been instructed.
“Please, you can't do this, just let me go.” Tears streamed down my cheeks as I pleaded for my freedom.
“You should be happy I'm giving you freedom from slavery. A lot of ladies would die to be in this position. Besides, you have nothing to lose.” He said convincingly, but I wasn't buying it.
“Exactly, you can get other ladies but not me. I don't want this at all. I'd find my mate at the right time. This is another form of slavery.” I decided to challenge him, but he had a stoic expression and paid deaf ears to my plea.
Lutha walked in a few moments later with a man and a few maids. “Gamma Dawn, I hope my description was right. Hand over the dress to the maids, and they'll help her out.” He said to the man whom I assumed to be the designer.
The designer left, and I ignored the maids and pleaded for mercy but to no avail. I was escorted to a room by the maids like a puppet, and I couldn't object. We got to the room, and they all murmured amongst themselves. I couldn't even pay attention to them as they were the least of my problems.
They held four red dresses and asked me to make a choice, and I stared blankly at all of them.
“This looks beautiful. What do you think?” One of them asked.
“No, this particular one is going to suit her best.” Another maid chimed in.
“Are you questioning my sense of fashion?” The first maid asked, and they all burst into laughter.
“I hope you remember the King is waiting.” The last maid reminded them, and they suddenly began to style my hair.
I sat like a doll and let them do whatever they pleased. When they were done, they finally decided on which dress I should put on. It was a rosy red ball gown endowed with gems, and I paused for a moment to think about the cost.
When they were done, I took off the worn off Sandals I was putting on and put on, and they gave me a new pair. I admired myself after seeing my image in the mirror and commended the maids for a job well done . The happiness was short-lived the moment we stepped out of the room.
There he was, seated like the devil himself, with his legs leisurely crossed as he sipped wine from a glass. The maids bowed curtly and left.
“I must say you look pretty in this dress.” Lutha complimented with a sense of humour that I couldn't phantom the source, but I was extremely angry with him. If he had let me go, things wouldn't have escalated to this point.
He put the glass aside and got on his feet. He extended his hand, and I took a few steps back. He gave me a questioning glance, and I shook my head.
“You almost killed me for touching you. Why should I repeat the same mistake?” I asked, raising a brow, and he chuckled lightly. Lutha tapped me from behind, and I gave him a deadly stare.
Before I could register what was going on in my head, He pulled me by the arm and made us cross arms like an official couple. None of these seemed right, and I couldn't help but fidget as we headed towards the hall. I glanced sideways at Lutha, and he flashed me a reassuring smile that only made me more furious.
I thought we were going to use the usual entrance, but I was surprised when he took me in through the backdoor. The hall seethed with an enormous crowd. The number of people seemed to have increased.
“Ladies and gentlemen, with a standing ovation, let's acknowledge the presence of our King, Alpha Devon Ludwig!!” The butler announced, drawing the attention of the crowd as he led me towards a seat that stood out amongst every other one.
The crowd rose to their feet, and loud cheers echoed in the hall.
Lutha stood and stared at us awkwardly, and he gestured towards an empty seat that wasn't far away. That was when I realized I was occupying the seat meant for him. I gave him an apologetic look because I had a conscience, and he nodded before leaving.
The attention of the crowd was on us, but what I noticed was that most of their gazes were fixed on me. Curiosity was evident in their eyes, and I tried to slip my hand off his, but he gave me a glare and held me firmly.
“You'll enjoy the outcome of this if you obediently comply. If you try to do something stupid, I won't hesitate to send you to hell.” He threatened, and fear gripped me.
It was getting darker, and for once, I wished I was in the Lancelots mansion. There, I had peace but no joy. ‘The universe keeps tossing me around, and now, I've landed in the hands of whose orders I can't defy. Someone more powerful than Lady Helen, who is my worst nightmare.’
“You like the attention you're getting now, don't you?” He asked in a whisper, and i quickly shook my head in disagreement.
He pressed the back of my hand, and I swallowed the sound that threatened to escape my lips.
“Why did you do that?” I asked frustratedly.
“You didn't have to shake your head like a helpless bird.” He cautioned, and I stared at him in disbelief.
“Why are you staring at me like that? Do you have more to blab?” He asked, raising a brow, and I sucked my teeth silently.
“You both are the centre of attention right now. What are you doing?” Lutha mumbled to us under his breath, and I gave him a glare because he had a part to play in all of these.
“His Majesty will be stepping forward to address you all. Let's welcome him on stage with a round of applause.” The butler announced, and there was a round of applause as he got on his feet and went towards his stage, not after giving me a cold and warning glance. The butler made a deep bow and left the stage.
He stood before the crowd, and his gaze travelled across the hall like he was trying to register the faces of everyone in attendance. “My esteemed pack members and visitors from across the seven giant packs of Winterfalls, I want to thank you all for gracing this event with your presence and Most especially, I want to use this medium to announce to you all that the long search for my mate is over. I've found her now, and I'm never letting her go.” He said, glancing sideways at me, and I grabbed a fistful of my dress to suppress the anxiety.
“This is a dubious lie. He's deceiving not just the pack but the entire land. Did you both plan this?” I muttered to Lutha, who feigned innocence.
“It's not as serious as you think. Just be calm. You wandered into his den, didn't you?” He asked, and I glared daggers at him. The cheers from the crowd suddenly reduced, and I noticed most of their faces suddenly became sullen.
“He wants you to step forward.” Lutha whispered, and I turned in his direction to see him staring at me. I looked away, and Lutha kept gesturing for me to walk up to him.
“Just do it. Make things easier for yourself.” Lutha urged, and I finally rose up to my feet with great reluctance. I held a fist full of the hem of my dress and took calculated steps toward him. My heart palpitated as I prayed inwardly to not be recognised by Lady Helen and her family members. She'd cause a fuss and embarrass me.
I was so nervous that I didn't notice his hand was stretched out. I took it gently and ascended the stage. At this moment, I wished the ground could open up and swallow me.
