I lean into the door; it had been three hours since I gave River a bowl of porridge and some tablets to relieve the pain. I wonder if she felt better or if she had passed out. I press my ear more into the hardwood door and try to listen for any sound of her breathing, but I do not hear anything.
"She is probably sleeping," Talia had said when I called her just ten minutes ago. When I saw River collapsing to the ground because of period pain, I knew that the only person who could tell me what to do was Talia.
