SHE RAN.

Viktor's muscles tensed, looking at her reminded him of the man standing very close to her. Making his grip tighten around the man's neck even harder, one second, that was all it would take. Just one second and he will end this bastard. His wolf roared for blood, his wolf wanted to make the man who dared to look at his mate disappear, he dared breathe in her presence, The fear in her eyes didn't penetrate his senses, his wolf was on the surface and nothing could stop his anger. And then–snap The sound of a cracking bone echoed through the room, the man's body went limp in Viktor's grasp, he was dead before he even hit the floor, blood flowed from his neck staining Viktor's hand as it dripped on the tiles as well, the metallic scent of blood filled the entire room. But then, A soft whimper escaped Kaira's lips, it was so faint that it could have been swallowed by the silence that followed but it reached him. He inhaled and exhaled as his eyes snapped towards her direction. The way she looked at him made Viktor freeze, his jaws clenched really hard. Kaira's eyes were wide with shock, her entire body pressed against the wall as if she wanted to disappear into it, she wanted to put as much distance between them as possible The realization hit Viktor like a tidal wave of ice, he looked at the blood that had stained the room and his hands but that was the least of his worries. His breath caught in his throat, and for the first time in centuries, he felt fear at the depth of his stomach, not fear for himself, not fear for battle but fear that he had just lost the only thing that mattered. He took a step closer to Kaira, his focus was only on her, his wolf had calmed down, his eyes a clear gold. “I am…” His voice came out strained almost pleading. But Kaira flinched, she was staring at him as if he was the most terrifying thing she ever set her eyes on. Viktor's heart clenched painfully that he almost staggered “No…” His voice came out as a whisper. “It's not…I didn't mean…” But before he could say another word, Kaira had already done what her mind kept telling her to do, She turned— and ran Viktor's heart sank, No, no, no— this wasn't what he wanted, he didn't mean to scare her. His feet moved before he could think. His entire being screamed at him to chase her, to catch her, to explain. But before he could chase after her, Elordi blocked his path with a firm grip stopping him in his tracks. The Beta's hold was strong and unyielding. “Move” Viktor snarled at him, his voice raw with desperation. His wolf threatened to resurface, urging him to rip apart, anything that stood in his way. But Elordi didn't budge, he needed to help Viktor think rationally, he just killed a human, without thinking of the consequences. “Viktor.” His voice was even and steady, “You have to let her go.” Let her go. His mate. How? Viktor's fists clenched so tightly that his claws punctured his own palm, drawing fresh blood. His body trembled, he was torn between the primal need of chasing after his mate and the cold reality that began to sink in slowly. He had killed a human. Without hesitation, without thinking and his mate had seen it. The monster he kept locked away, the part of him that always fought without thinking of the consequences, had been unleashed right in front of her. Kaira had seen what he truly was and she had run from him. Viktor let out a low growl, his breathing uneven, different emotions clouded his mind. “She's afraid of me.” He muttered the word felt like shards of glass against his throat. The mate he had hoped for all his life. Elordi didn't deny it, he didn't need to. Viktor's heart clenched, the realization of the monster he was, hurt him, he would have never believed he would hate his feral side, he had spent years fighting against witches, wiping them out of his kingdom gradually, and never did he care for softness nor did he ever long for something as fragile as acceptance. But this was his mate. He didn't even get to ask her name and now she was gone. “I need to find her.” His breath was still uneven, as he shoved Elordi's hand away. “Not like this.” Elordi's words hit him hard, he gritted his teeth, as his wolf howled in frustration demanding he go after her and fix things. But deep down, a part of him knew the truth. If he chased her now and forced her to face him while she was still terrified, he might end up losing her forever. And that thought alone terrified him. He took a slow breath, his eyes flickered with restrained fury, pain and regret, his gaze shifted to the bloodstain on the floor and the lifeless body at his feet, making his stomach twist. Not because of what he had done but because of what it had caused him. Kaira's scent was still lingering in the air, growing fainter by the second but there was nothing he could do. Elordi finally released a slow breath, he finally looked at Leonard who hadn't said a single word since they stepped into the room. “We'll find her, no matter what it takes.” He said before turning to look at Viktor, “But first, you have to give her space.” Viktor didn't respond, his jaw clenched very tightly it ached, and his hands still curled into a fist. He hated this but he also hated the thought of being the reason he couldn't be with his mate, so he did the one thing that went against his very own will at the moment. He agreed to let her go but just for now.
