Viktor sat in his dimly lit study, with his hands on the table and his head down, the room was silent except for the crackling sound of the fire from the fireplace, but inside Viktor Travious, there was only chaos and torment, he was extremely uncomfortable except that he noticed his headache was gone, if he remembered correctly the severe headache he was having disappeared the moment he met her.
How mysterious,he thought.
But she had run from him, he could feel the bond between them but the only thing his mate felt for him was fear.
Viktor clenched his fists so hard that his claws dug into his own skin, he didn't care how many times he punctured his palm, the pain was nothing compared to the ache in his chest.
He had seen fear and terror in the eyes of many individuals before but that of his mate hurt him badly.
He had never felt what it was like to be burned from the inside and the fact that he let her go, made it worse for him to focus.
His wolf kept roaring angrily within him.
He regretted staying back, he should have followed her, and tried to talk to her and change her mind, make her know that she belonged to him, instead he had stopped and now she was alone out there without him, what if she was alone and afraid, what if something happened to her.
Viktor's mind was a mess, but the only thing that kept him at a place, was the fact that Elordi and Leonard had stayed back at the hotel to clean up the mess Viktor had made and also find the the manager to ask about Kaira.
An unwanted voice broke through Viktor's thoughts.
"What a sight to behold, Viktor."
His jaw tightened, it was Ezra, his assigned mate.
He didn't need to lift his head to know it was her.
Her scent filled the room, causing Viktor to scrunch his nose in disgust, even his wolf was irritated.
Ezra leaned against the doorway with her arms crossed, her lips curled into a smirk, she had never seen Viktor Travious restless.
Her spy had given her the information on how Viktor's day went but she had never expected he would meet his mate, not now, not ever.
"You look like you are about to tear this whole place apart," she mused, tilting her head. "All because of a mere human girl?"
Viktor finally lifted his head and looked at her with irritation written all over his face.
Ezra sighed and walked closer to his desk as she trailed her fingers on its surface. "You're loosing yourself over her, Viktor. It's absolutely pathetic."
A low growl rumbled from within his chest.
Ezra ignored it, it wasn't dangerous yet, and then she sat on the edge of his desk. " You do realize she's a mere human, right? She's not only weak and fragile but she will never survive in our world, neither will she accept what you are."
Viktor's eyes turned blood red, the wolf he had managed to keep at bay, resurfaced without warning.
"Get out!" Viktor roared.
But Ezra was slow to read the shift in the air, instead she chuckled. “Viktor, don’t be like that. I’m trying to help you. You and I know you were never meant to have a mate, especially not one like her. That’s why the witches......”
Before she could finish her statement, Viktor's hand shot out and held her throat in a tight grip that if he made it any tighter he would snap Ezra's neck in two.
Ezra gasped as her smirk vanished, she didn't even see it coming.
"You are not my mate, Ezra. You never were and will never be." Viktor's voice was deadly calm but firm, he was trying not to bloody his hands again.
He released her roughly, making her stumble backwards.
Ezra's eyes darkened as she clenched her jaw. "You'll regret this, Alpha Viktor, because that human girl will never accept you."
But Viktor didn't even flinch. "Get out!"
Ezra glared at him and stormed out of the study, slamming the door behind her.
Viktor exhaled, he was trying his best to calm his rage down.
What Ezra said didn't matter
All that mattered was that he would find Kaira and never let her leave his side again.
===================================================
Kaira ran home to try and process her thoughts better, but she knew better than anyone, that her aunt's house has never been a home to her, it was just a place she existed in.
She took a deep breath before knocking, she knocked twice before the door opened sharply.
Her aunt Bianca stood right in front of the door with her arms crossed, her sharp gaze sweeped all over her. "You're late." She said coldly as she stepped aside.
Kaira was too tired to fight, she didn't want to argue but the moment she stepped inside, he breath caught in her throat.
A stranger stood in the living room.
She looked tall and elegant with brown piercing eyes, her sleek dark her fell over her beige coat radiating confidence.
The woman turned around and smiled at her. "You're Kaira, right?"
Kaira froze, her aunt's voice came next, it was the first time her aunt ever spoke to her in a warm tone.
"This is Laura," Bianca said. "Your cousin. She just returned from abroad."
Kaira's stomach twisted, she had heard about Laura but they had never met, she was Bianca's golden child after Lex. Unlike Kaira who had been forced into her care after her parents died in that mysterious accident.
And now Laura was here, to add to her misery.
"Wow, I've heard so much about you," Laura's smile widened. "You look abit different from what I had imagined, I guess you take after your mother."
Kaira's felt her breath hitch, why was everybody bringing up her parents today.
She swallowed hard. "I guess so."
Laura studied her for second longer before she turned away, "Well, I'm exhausted. I'll see you later, Kaira." And Laura left.
Kaira just stood there looking completely exhausted.
Don't embarrass yourself as usual Infront of Laura," her aunt said sharply before she turned and walked away herself.
Without saying anything, Kaira walked past Bianca and headed straight to her room, closing the door behind her, and immediately laid on the her bed.
She was tired, everything was too much for her.
Her aunt, her cousins, her life, all if it felt suffocating.
She shut eyes, trying her best to calm down but then everything replayed in her head, his image burned in her mind.
His golden eyes, his hands stained with blood, the pain in his expression before she ran.
She had never seen a man like him before, but she didn't care, she was going to forget and try to move past it.
She had enough problems already.
But why.
Why did she feel like she had left something important behind.
