Decisive action was needed if they wanted to turn things around with Frederik, Bernhard thought. There was apparently a strict discipline in Chinese schools. The demands on Asian students were high. In Dandong, their son would be put out of his pointless loitering. Only with a lot of luck, excellent connections and financial support in the right places had Bernhard managed to save Frederik from prison. He had even made evidence disappear. Nevertheless, he feared that he was slowly overplaying his hand by portraying Frederik as a rebellious but harmless son from a good family. He always had to work, and his wife was totally useless... how often had he asked her to look after Frederik, but she was clearly not up to the task. Always, something happened! Never mind.
