I saw mom standing in the door and heard the unmistakable clicking sound. Derek's eyes widened and I felt fear gripping my soul. I glanced behind my brother, the only person I could always rely on and who made everything possible for me to have a decent life. Mom's eyes were shining with a crazy sparkle.
- Derek. I asked you, where are you going? - she repeated the question and I mumbled.
- Mom. Don't hurt him. - our mother started to laugh.
- I won't hurt him, honey! I'll just show him where he belongs. - I saw her finger on the trigger and Derek held my hands saying.
- Run! - that was it. Our mother pulled the trigger and it hit my brother in his back. His eyes became glassy and he smiled one more time before he collapsed onto the bed.
