Redempta, you need to see this," Marco said, a hint of urgency in his voice.She put down her pen and followed him oThe days following Joey’s revelation were challenging for Redempta. She had always known that her past could come back to haunt her, but she had never expected it to take the form of a child—a child she had inadvertently hurt. She felt a wave of guilt and sorrow as she thought about Joey and his father, realising the depth of her past actions.As the weeks went by, Redempta tried to focus on her work at the centre, but the weight of Joey’s situation lingered. She knew she had to do something, but she wasn’t sure what. One afternoon, she decided to visit Joey at his home. She wanted to talk to him, to offer her support and maybe even a bit of guidance.Joey lived in a small, rundown apartment with his mother. When Redempta arrived, Joey was sitting on the steps outside, his face buried in his hands. He looked up as she approached, a mixture of surprise and apprehension in his eyes."Hey, Joey," she greeted softly. "Mind if I sit with you?"He nodded silently, and she took a seat beside him. They sat in silence for a moment, the sounds of the city filling the space between them."You know, I’ve done things I’m not proud of," Redempta began, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I’ve learned that we all have the power to change. We all deserve a second chance."Joey stared at her, his eyes filled with uncertainty. "But what if I don’t think I deserve it?"Redempta placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "It’s not about what we think we deserve, Joey. It’s about what we do with the chances we’re given. You’re a good kid. I believe in you, and so does everyone at the centre."
