chapter 1:The bargain

The heavy iron gates of the mansion groaned shut behind us, sealing me into a world I didn't belong to. My name is Song Ge. I'm eighteen years old, and as of three hours ago, my life was officially traded away in a silent corporate boardroom. I was married off to Mo Yan—a man whose name people only whispered in the darkest corners of the city. A mafia boss. A predator. And now, legally, my husband. The grand foyer of his mansion was massive, built of cold black marble and echoing with an eerie, dead silence. It felt less like a home and more like a beautifully constructed fortress. Mo Yan paused near the base of the grand staircase, adjusting the silver cuffs of his tailored suit jacket. He didn't even bother to look at me, his voice cutting through the quiet like ice. "You should get used to this silence," he muttered. I swallowed the sudden nervousness creeping up my throat, crossed my arms, and forced a bright, completely fearless smile onto my face. If he expected me to cower, he was mistaken. "Don't worry," I replied happily, looking around the bleak, dark room. "I will change this place exactly how I want as time passes." Mo Yan stopped dead in his tracks. Slowly, he turned around. The air in the room instantly grew heavy, the atmospheric pressure dropping in a second. He stepped right into my personal space, towering over me. A dark, terrifying glare was locked in his piercing eyes. "Do you think you can just change things here?" his voice dropped to a lethal, dangerous whisper that sent a sudden shiver down my spine. "This is my territory, sweetheart." Most people would have broken eye contact, dropped to their knees, and begged for forgiveness. But I didn't back down. I tilted my chin up, meeting his scary gaze with a challenging smirk of my own. "Let's see," I whispered back.
