Scarlett’s Pov
Morning didn’t feel like morning.In this beautiful mansion.Everywhere was silent .Loneliness overtook me.
For a while,I laid on the bed staring at the fancy ceiling lights.
Then I started thinking of the wedding.The first time Xavier came to my house.And that's where all this started from.
I opened the covers and the outside view was so beautiful.
This is the first time I'm really noticing how beautiful the room was.Everything about this mansion is beautiful.It is a beautiful cage.
I decided to go round the house and explore since I woke up really late and I didn’t get to see Xavier at all.I had my bath and dressed up.
I went to the dining table that was set as a royal table.I was treated like a queen.This is luxury at its finest.I was bored and lonely.
Since Xavier didn’t want me to go out I decided to go round the house to find my way around.
After having my breakfast,I decided to walk down the hallway.It looks creepy and abandoned.
As I walked around the other hallway.I bumped into Lily,The young maid.
The young maid gasped.
“I’m sorry ,Mrs. Kane.”
I smiled knowing fully well she didn’t do it intentionally.
“At least this was the first person this mansion that doesn’t act afraid of me”
Lily seemed nervous.
“No ma i didn’t mean to hit you “
Don’t worry it isn’t such a big deal.Don't worry Xavier wouldn’t hear about this.She felt relieved and she smiled.
This was the first time Scarlett has had a normal conversation since she started living here.
“How long have you worked here for?”I asked
“Two years “she answered.
Before the conversation could continue.
A voice came from the background.
“Lily ,Lily where are you?”
It was Mrs Evelyn.
“I would be back,
”Lily told Scarlett, rushing to answer Mrs Evelyn.
“You have so many duties and chores to do and you’re busy roaming about,”Mrs Evelyn told Lily.
“I was busy with Mrs.Kane,
”Lily answered.
“Oh that’s great,I'm glad she is getting along “Mrs Evelyn said with a big smile on her face.
While Lily left I continued exploring the whole mansion.There were beautiful paintings on the wall and artistic sculptures.Then i came across a room,it was locked and it had a do not enter caution sign on it”Do not Enter”.
That sentence made me very interested in the room.I called Mrs Evelyn.
“Mrs Evelyn, why is this room locked?”I asked.
“No one is meant to enter that room”she said with fear in her eyes.
“Why?”I asked.
“It was an order from the boss,
”she said, still acting scared .
“Has Xavier always been like this?”I asked Mrs Evelyn.
“No”She said putting a very sad face on.
That made me more interested in this whole situation .
“Why does he keep the room locked?”I asked Mrs Evelyn.
“Some memories are difficult to bury,”she said with a straight face.
I told Mrs Evelyn she can go even though I didn't really understand her statement.
I unlocked the door and I crawled over to enter the room.
It was a beautiful room with a great design.The room belonged to Mr Richard Kane,Xavier’s father.
The man they accused my father of destroying.
In the room there were different pictures of Xavier as a baby with his father.
There were so many photo albums.
And all the bed was a file.
The title was the business partnership with Mr Hayes.“Mr Hayes?”
Then there was a picture in the middle of the file.
It was a picture of my father and Xavier’s father.
I heard footsteps and I had to leave the room immediately and lock it before I would be caught.
Surprisingly later that day.Scarlett received a call.It was Camilla.“You’re still alive “Camila asked.
This time Xavier wasn’t around to save me from her madness.
“I didn’t call you to fight you i just want you to hear me out”
“Xavier wasn’t always like this,He was happy and he was a very joyful man.There was anincident that changed him all”
“The man you married was created by grief,”Camila said.
Before Scarlett could say anything the call ended.
Xavier came home late that night .Scarlett didn’t say anything to him .
She was still lost and confused trying to wrap her head around everything that happened today.That night Xavier went to bed but Scarlett couldn’t sleep.
Curiosity won.She went back to that room.
As she was going Xavier noticed she left the room so he followed.
When she entered the room trying to find more information.
Then she noticed Xavier was with her in the same room.
He wasn’t angry at her.
“Why didn’t you tell me our family knew each other?”
“Why did you lie to me?”
I didn’t lie to you.
Tell me everything that happened .
“My father and your father were good friends and business partners “Xavier said.
As he continued talking I was breathing heavily.
“My father trusted your father and that trust killed him ”Xavier said.
“killed”for a moment I couldn't think straight.
What do you mean my beloved father killed someone.I couldn’t believe it.So this is the truth.
This is the hidden truth behind my maltreatment.
And for the first time I didn't see Xavier’s anger as something unnecessary.All along his anger was justified.
When I looked at Xavier I saw nothing but grief.I saw a pure hearted man.Who was just hurt because his joy was stolen.
I no longer blamed him for being angry and mean.
I took a look at the room again, then I saw another picture on the floor.
I picked it up with my hands shaking aggressively.
on the back of the picture was a sentence written with faded ink.
it was barely visible.
“If anything happens to it Alfred Hayes is responsible by Richard Kane"
Immediately I hugged Xavier trying to comfort him because no one deserves to go through what
he went through.
Xavier cried and mourned.
It was the first time I saw him broken.
The room went silent.
At that moment everything changed.
The next day Xavier invited me to attend an event with him . I felt very awkward facing him after hearing what my father did to his father.
The event we attended was a fancy dinner with some of his other business partners. We were like a perfect couple . We looked so good together with his black suit matching my black shiny gown he recently bought for me.I felt something good for Xavier for the first time.
The dinner came to an end and it was a peaceful drive to the house.
