Maybe forever

A big possibility

"Ami I got a really big surprise for you". Jasper comes into his office smiling happily, his voice excited.

I look up at him. He called me this morning, asking for a meeting as soon as humanly possible. "Hi Jasper, you make me all nervous now."

"Don't worry, my dear. Nothing to fear, only good news." He hugs me before sitting back in his chair.

I'm about to go crazy. Jasper is taking his time looking through some papers on his desk. "For God's sake, Jasper, can't that wait? Just tell me what it is!"

"Hey, little miss, don't be so impatient. Do you remember we talked about launching your career outside Denmark?" He seems amused by my impatience.

I nod, wondering what’s coming next. Would we be doing that already? I thought it would take longer. "Yes, but first in a while, right?"

"That was the plan," he says, "but we got contacted by a big TV network. They want you to sing the title song for their next big tv series." He looks at me, waiting for my reaction.

I’m overwhelmed. Where do they know me from? "Wow, Jasper, that sounds crazy! How does something like that happen? And where do they know me from?"

"They got a tip from someone who heard your song on YouTube. They want you to come there and record it, and maybe even appear in a couple of episodes. This could be your big break." He’s smiling, and that makes my heart race.

I can barely stay still in my chair. "That sounds so amazing! Do you think I should do it, Jasper? And where is it? Germany? England?"

"No, my darling," he says with excitement. "We’re talking big time. We’re talking America… LA, baby! You’re going to Hollywood, and yes, I’m sure this is the perfect thing to do. If this is a hit, you’ll be on your way to superstardom." He puts some papers in front of him.

I blink in surprise. Hollywood? A sharp pain in my chest reminds me of the past, but LA is a big city. "How long would I stay?"

"Not entirely planned yet. We hope to book some small venues and get in some promotion… at least 1-2 months, maybe even longer." He watches me closely to see if I’m ready.

That’s a lot longer than I had expected, but why not? It’s a huge opportunity. "And when would I go?"

"As fast as possible. They’re already shooting the show, and the song needs to be ready for the premiere." He hands me the papers from his desk.

I look them over. "Is this the song? But this is a duet! Who am I going to sing with?"

"I don’t think they’ve found the right guy yet, but they have some options. I guess we’ll know more when we get there," Jasper says, checking his computer.

I think that will be okay. Maybe it’ll be someone famous, which would be great for me… and also cool. "Well, I guess that’s what we do then."

"Super Ami! I’ll get on planning the trip. I’ll go with you to help you settle in. I’ll call you with our departure date, but expect it to be sometime next week," Jasper says enthusiastically.

I get up and hug him tightly before leaving the office and heading to my car. I have to tell Linda.

Luckily, my best friend is home, and I drive directly to her place, ringing the doorbell.

"Hi, Ami! Long time no see," Linda says, pulling me into a big friendly hug. We haven’t seen each other in a couple of weeks.

I follow her into the kitchen to make tea. "Yeah, way too long, but I’ve just been busy, and I’m afraid it will be even longer before you see me next time."

"What now, Ami? What are they making you do next? A summer tour in Germany or something?" Linda asks while making tea.

I shake my head, knowing what Linda’s first reaction will be. "I’m going to Hollywood to make the title song for a new big TV show, and maybe some promotion too. Jasper said I should expect at least a couple of months."

"Ami, I know you don't want to hear this, but you know who lives in LA, right?" Linda watches me over her cup.

I sigh. "Yes, Linda, I know where he lives, but it’s a very big city. Maybe he’s out of town doing a movie or theater, and no, I’m not going to contact him."

"Well, you know what I think, but I won’t pressure you," Linda says. I don’t get it. After we broke up, she suddenly became Zac’s biggest fan and has been pushing me to get back with him.

At least she is not pushing it now, instead we talk about all the other possibilities this could lead to and about the trip Linda and Kasper is going on to Australia.
