Chapter 20: At SeaCold water hitting his face slapped Mudge awake. His body was under water. All but his head and one arm. Like an iceberg. His frozen fist clenched on a knot, the end of a rope wrapped around his wrist. The rope's other end ran up to a boat. It must be tied there, or how was it dragging him along like a hooked fish? He blinked the salt water out of his eyes. Blurry. He made out the top of a mast, with a limp colored sail. No wind. Where was land? Far away. Little docks, trees, and houses from a model train set. Over the burbling in his ears he heard splashing. Rosalie. She'd hit him with an oar. Tried to kill him. She'd knocked him overboard. Why? Splash. Drip-drip-drip. Splash. She must be using the oar to move the boat. Slowly. Paddle a dinghy with one oar? Why?
