Odin transformed as well to match the leader of the assassins, his wolf had a pure black coat of fur and was quite large. He huffed and growled, and the battle began in earnest. Odin's strength and skill were evident as he fended off the attackers. He then left them for his team members and concentrated on the leader.
They circled each other before Odin took the first leap, biting into the wolf’s neck.
The battle raged on, then, with exhaustion, the wolf fell limp in Odin’s wolf’s jaws.
He dropped the wolf, which whimpered, taking its last few breaths, it transformed.
Odin, a bit sad that it had to come to this. Transformed as well. He slowly approached the fallen head assassin. As he reached down to turn him over, he couldn't have anticipated the shock that awaited him. His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the face of the man.
Odin's hands trembled as he gently closed the lifeless eyes of the man who had been both an enemy and, once, a part of their lives. He couldn't help but feel a profound sense of loss and confusion, the weight of the situation almost too much to bear.
The camp was shrouded in an uneasy silence as dawn broke, and the first light of day illuminated the wounded and weary warriors returning from their mission. Odin and his men had grim expressions as they made their way back.
Dawn stood at the edge of the camp, her heart heavy with worry. She had been anxiously awaiting Odin's return, and now that he was back, her anxiety turned to dread as she noticed the injuries on him and his men. The somber mood that permeated the camp was undeniable.
Odin, still bearing the wounds from the battle, was hesitant to meet Dawn's gaze. His eyes were filled with both exhaustion and dumbfoundedness, and hesitation. He couldn't bring himself to speak with her about the events of the night.
Seeing her beloved in such a state, Dawn felt a pang of worry and reached out to him. "Odin, what happened? Are you okay?"
Before Odin could respond, one of his loyal pack members, a seasoned werewolf who had been with him on the mission, Gregory, stepped forward. His expression was grave as he looked at Dawn and began to explain.
"Dawn, we were attacked," he said, his voice filled with solemnity. "It was a well-coordinated ambush, and we lost some of our comrades. The alpha fought valiantly to protect us, it was a fierce battle, but we won."
Dawn's eyes widened in shock and concern as she took in the news. “And the attackers?”
“They escaped,” Gregory said. “Alpha killed their leader. He buried him there in the woods.”
“Buried?” Aleka looked surprised to see Odin's compassion for his attempted murderers.
Odin finally met Dawn's gaze, his eyes reflecting the anguish he felt. "I'm sorry, Dawn. I didn't want to worry you.”
“That’s fine; you can’t control an ambush. As long as you are alive, it’s fine,” she turned back to Jasper. “We need to track those werewolves down. We can't let them keep roaming about trying to kill our alpha.”
“Just leave them,” Odin cut in, adjusting himself on the bed he lay on. His chest was slashed up from the fight.
“What do you mean leave them, look at you!” Dawn said.
He held her hand. “Just treat me and leave them for now.”
Dawn wanted to argue. “But-”
“Just do as I say,” he cut in, moaning as he pulled out a small piece of wood that had lodged itself to his side.
Dawn fell silent at his tone. She sighed. These days she felt more apart from Odin than ever before.
=====================
The two months of silence had been agonizing for Dawn. She had heard no word from Odin since he got back from the ambush. The uncertainty of their relationship unsettled her. It was as if he had disappeared from her life completely, leaving her feeling lost and alone.
Then, one fateful day, the news reached her ears like a sharp, unexpected gust of wind. The pack members were buzzing with excitement and whispers about Odin's announcement. It was a piece of information she had dreaded, yet never truly expected to hear.
Odin had chosen a Luna, and it was his fated mate. The reality of it hit her like a tidal wave, and she found herself unable to move as the words echoed in her mind. Her heart ached. Since when had he found his fated mate? Was this why he had been distant?
As the pack celebrated the union of their Alpha with his chosen mate, Dawn watched from the shadows, her eyes filled with bitter emotions. Odin had found his destiny, and she was left to find her own path, one that would lead her to a future where their love remained a cherished memory.
Dawn's heartache was almost unbearable. She had hoped that this would never happen. The thought that their fated mates might come into the picture one day and ruin their relationship eased into her mind from time to time, but she brushed it away. Only to face that reality today.
In the wake of Odin's announcement, Dawn made her decision. She was going to leave the pack.

Silently, without a word to anyone, she packed a few belongings and left the camp. With her grandmother dead and her relationship with Odin as well, she wanted to just start over. It was painful leaving behind the life she had known and the love she had held for Odin.

A few months had gone by, Dawn settled down in the human world, successfully blending in and living in Chicago, a city busy day and night. She sat silently in her apartment, processing her choices. Odin came to her mind; there was no way she was going back to tell him that not only was she pregnant, but with triplets.
