“I haven’t been to Maymont since the last time we were here, back in high school.” Spencer’s head slowly turned, taking in the elegance of the Japanese Gardens. It was a secluded section in the back of the park, close to the river. Ochre leaves from the maple trees reflected on the glassy water of the pond, almost blinding me as we crossed the rickety wooden bridge to the pagoda. “It’s even more stunning than I remember.” I didn’t speak, wondering if Spencer recalled what we did the last time we came here.
