I woke up exhausted due to the fact I kept waking up off and on during the night. I had only gotten roughly 3 hours of sleep, which was surprising since I'd actually slept in my bed last night. Why I was sleeping better on a couch than in my own bed was a mystery. Maybe I was just getting used to the couch and needed to readjust to my bed. That seemed reasonable to me.
I took a quick shower and dried my hair quickly. I dried my hair roughly, not bothering to do much with it today. With how little sleep I got, I was surprised I even managed to get the energy to shower.
I pulled on a pair of skinny jeans, black converse, and a gray Beatles t-shirt. I tied my shirt back in a knot and put on a little bit of mascara and lip gloss for my make-up.
I slung my backpack over my shoulder and walked downstairs. Liam and Brooke were still sleeping, as it was 6 in the morning, so I grabbed a peach for my breakfast.
I wrote them a note saying I'd meet them at school and walked out. I wanted some time to myself, since I haven't had a lot of time to think about the whole Tyler being my mate issue, and this was the perfect opportunity to do it.
I walked into the garage and raised the door, taking my own vehicle today. I got on my black motorcycle, which had been a sixteenth birthday from my parents, which happened to be the only present they'd ever given me. Well, that Tristan was part of. My mom had given me plenty of birthday gifts without his knowledge.
I turned on the engine and drove out, hoping it wasn't too loud to wake Brooke and Liam. I decided to take the long way to school through the forest, as I had two hours to kill.
I poured on the speed, not caring about the speed limits. My werewolf senses would warn me of any danger, and I could see everything perfectly fine due to my increased eyesight. Besides, having Alpha blood in me makes me heal faster than most werewolves. If I got into a crash, I'd be healed by the time the car stopped moving from any injuries I received. I put my senses into driving the motorcycle and let my thoughts drift to Tyler.
Why was he so set on being around me? He's the one who rejected me, so he should leave me alone. At least, that's how it has usually gone with those whose mates rejected them.
A thought occurred to me suddenly. Is it possible for a werewolf to take back rejecting their mate? I've never heard of it, but I have heard of mates being able to move on once the rejected mate accepts the rejection. I had accepted the rejection right off the bat and I wasn't having any regrets or second thoughts. So why wasn't Tyler moving on?
School appeared in my view, dragging me away from my thoughts. I pushed the Tyler problem to the back of my mind and focused on the sudden increase in cars in the parking lot. Normally I would figure pack members turned sixteen and got cars, but there were far too many new cars in the parking lot for that. And they reeked of new werewolf scents.
I pulled into the parking lot next to Brooke's car, knowing it took me about an hour and a half to get to school from my woods detour, and turned off the engine. I swung my leg off of my bike and locked it up so that way nobody would steal it. I knew my pack wouldn't, since they know I'm the Alpha's daughter and my scent is all over it, but I wasn't so sure about all these new werewolves.
I adjusted my backpack and walked towards school. I saw Brooke and Liam waiting by the front door, and I walked up to them. "Hey, any of you know what's with the new people?"
Liam shook his head. "Not a clue."
"Alpha Wood must have added new members to his pack," Brooke suggested.
I frowned. "There should've been a formal meeting about the new additions with Tristan about new additions to his pack. I've heard nothing about that."
Brooke shrugged. "Maybe they had it informally?"
"Brooke's right," Liam said. "My dad didn't know this was happening, and he's the Gamma. He would've told me. They either had the meeting informally, or Alpha Evans didn't know anything about it."
I chewed on the inside of my cheek. "You're right. My mom would've at least told me about our rival pack gaining new members."
"So Midnight Moon is behind this," Brooke concluded. "Let's go ask Tyler what this is about."
"Do we have to?" I asked, not wanting to see Tyler at all. I thought it would be best to avoid him at all cost from here on out.
"Yes. Don't worry, I'll do all the talking. Just don't shift and attack him. Save our parents the paperwork," she said.
I rolled my eyes. "You act like I have no self-restraint. But you know how I love to give Tristan paperwork."
"Your mom is the one who does the paperwork, remember?" she reminded me.
I groaned. "Fine, I'll behave."
"Do I have to?" Liam asked. He was really starting to have it out for Tyler. Almost more than I do. It was quite strange, though I guess that's what happens when a guy is protective over a girl.
"Yes," Brooke and I said in unison. Male werewolves were known to carry on fights while female werewolves tended to go straight to the point. More efficient that way.
"Let's get this over with," I grumbled, reluctantly following the scent of my ex-mate. We found him by his locker surrounded by a bunch of his jock friends, as usual.
"Tyler!" Brooke called, but he ignored her.
"Tyler, we need to talk!" Brooke tried again.
He glanced at her, but didn't say anything or acknowledge her. It was annoying me he was ignoring my best friend so blatantly. That is not how you get into a girl's good graces.
Brooke opened her mouth and, knowing she was about to get creative with her next words, I stopped her. No use getting detention for cursing at someone.
"Let me try," I said. "Hey, Tyler!"
Tyler looked around, and I rolled my eyes. "Over here, dumbass."
Tyler saw me, and his eyes lit up. It made my skin crawl.
"Hey babe," he said, throwing his arm around my shoulders.
I heard a growl come from Liam, but I was too annoyed to actually think about it. I shoved his arm off of me and glowered at him.
"Hands off, asshole," I growled. "My best friend here has a question for you, which is the only reason why I'm here. I suggest you treat her with respect, as she is the daughter of Beta Davis. Also, if you call me babe again, I'll punch you."
"Or I will," Liam muttered under his breath, and I gave him a quick smile.
"Fine," Tyler said, giving a glare at Liam before turning to Brooke. "What do you want, Davis?"
"My name's Brooke, thanks for asking," Brooke spat. "And why are there more werewolves than usual here? Your pack has something to do with this, and Alpha Evans won't be happy you went against the agreement of informing him of new pack members."
Tyler rolled his eyes. "Calm down, Davis, they're only here because my dad thought bringing in new werewolves would help some of the pack members find their mates. It's for a good cause, and Alpha Evans and my father agreed to it over drinks the other night."
"It's not going to work too well," Liam insisted. "New werewolves in a pack don't mix well together. They shouldn't be at school until they've been established in the pack."
"Nobody asked for your opinion, James," Tyler spat.
"I'm pointing out the obvious," Liam retorted. "They're also not going to get along with werewolves from a different pack being in the same space as them yet."
"You may have to hold him back," Brooke whispered to me.
Knowing she was right and there could very well be a fight about to break out, I stepped in between them. "Let's go, Liam. We got our answer, so we're done here."
I grabbed his hand and tugged him away, having to tap a little more into my strength to get him away from Tyler.
Tyler growled and grabbed my arm, jealous I was holding another guy's hand. "Mine!"
I snapped when he touched me. The wolf in me didn't want him touching me, and I completely agree with that. That, and him being possessive filled me with rage. He had no right to be possessive of me anymore.
I let go of Liam's hand and grabbed Tyler's arm. I flipped him over my shoulder, and he slammed hard into the tile. I twisted his arm around until only a movement would break his bone into two.
"I'm not your f*cking mate," I hissed. "You're the one who rejected me, so leave me the hell alone. We're no longer mates, so get that through your head."
I let go of his arm and walked away with Liam and Brooke.
"You good?" Brooke asked, feeling my rage through the pack bond. That, or I was radiating a pissed-off Alpha werewolf aura.
"I just need a minute," I said, trying to cool my temper before I accidentally shifted. "We better get to class. Might as well be where I'm supposed to be to lessen the punishment of assaulting Tyler."
"Good idea," Brooke said. "See you in chemistry."
"Bye Hales," Liam said, and they went to their first hour classes.
I walked into mine and sat down at my desk. Whatever the punishment was, I just hoped it helped Tyler to leave me alone and accept his decision to reject me. It would make both our lives much easier.
