"You're not going on this date," Liam said. "I forbid it. I absolutely forbid it."
I rolled my eyes. "A deal's a deal, Liam. He held up his end of the bargain, so I'm holding up mine."
"How do you know he did?" Liam said. "For all we know, Brent could just be on a break."
I raised an eyebrow. "Do you really think that?"
He sighed. "No. I just don't want you going on this date with him, Hales."
"I don't wanna go either, but we've got no choice. I'm gonna go see how Brooke is doing. She should be better now, it's been four days."
I got up from the couch and walked up to Brooke's room. I knocked once and walked in. Brooke was sitting with her knees up. All the bruises were gone.
"Hey," I said. "How's the legs?"
"Just dandy," she said. "As long and luscious as always. How's the hand?"
I showed her my hand, which only had a slight red tint to it from the burn . "It's doing good. It should be healed by tonight."
"Just in time for your date," Brooke teased.
I smiled. "I still think we should send a cardboard cut out of me and send it on the date with him instead. I don't think he'd be able to tell the difference."
We laughed, and Brooke rubbed her throat. "Be a doll and get me some water, will you? My throat hurts like a bitch."
I smiled and got up. "I'll be right back."
I walked downstairs and got Brooke a glass of water. I saw Liam and hugged him, overjoyed with Brooke's health. "She's better!"
Liam smiled and laughed at me. "I'm glad everything's finally well."
I grinned. "Everything's great!"
"Yeah, if you count you going on a date with Tyler as good," Liam growled.
I pointed my finger at him threateningly. "Don't put a damper on my mood. I'm happy for the first time in two weeks. Don't ruin this."
Liam put his hands up in surrender. "Alright, I give."
"Good boy." I patted his head and ran to give Brooke her water.
But when I got there, however, she wasn't in her room. She was in mine.
"What are you doing?" I asked slowly.
"Oh good, you're back," she said, looking over her shoulder at me. "Now what do you think: heels or flats?"
"Um, heels," I said.
"Good choice," she said. "Now, what color of dress? Black or white? Or maybe even red? Ooh, I know, purple!"
"Not to rain on your parade," I said, "but why are you looking through my clothes?"
"Tonight is your first date ever, and I'm here to help you look as hot as possible!"
"I can dress myself. You do realize I'm eighteen, right?"
"I know, but if you choose what you wear, then you'd show up in ripped jeans, converse, an old t-shirt, and your hair in a ponytail. Besides, I have way better fashion taste than you."
"Well, I'm offended."
"Whatever. Now, go get ready, we have t-minus four hours left before your date."
"Um, Brooke, we have six hours left. It's only two and he's picking me up at eight."
"It's always best to be ready two hours before the date."
"If it was up to me, I'd be two hours late."
Brooke rolled her eyes. "You're going on this date, Hales. As much as I hate the guy, we do owe him. I'm better now, but I'm still going to need a couple more days to complete the process. And until then, we have to keep up our end of the bargain. Now go shower and do everything before I make you."
I sighed, but got into the shower. I shaved my legs and scrubbed every inch of my body. I washed my hair thoroughly and dried it off. I slipped into some boxer shorts, underwear and a sports bra since I wanted to be comfortable anyway.
I walked out, and my eyes widened as I looked at my room. Make-up was scattered everywhere, hair products were covering the dresser, and clothes were strewn across my floor. It looked like my closet threw up.
"Dear god, what happened?" I asked.
"Sit!" Brooke demanded. "I'm doing your hair."
She forced me to sit down in a chair and began drying my hair. She straightened it and made it curve towards my face at the ends.
"I never straighten my hair," I reminded her.
"I know, which is why I'm doing it for you," she said. "Now, it's make-up time!"
Thankfully, she went light on the make-up. She only put on mascara, eyeliner, light eyeshadow, and lip gloss. Nothing too big.
"Now it's time for jewelry!" she announced.
I frowned. "Why can't I see what I'm wearing?"
"Because your dress is the last thing you get to see," Brooke said. "Now, put on the earrings!"
"I knew I should never have let you pierce my ears," I muttered as I put the dangly silver earrings Brooke handed me on.
She stuck her tongue out at me.
I rolled my eyes. "Can I at least wear my necklace?"
She smiled. "I don't think I could get it off you, even if I tried."
"You got that right." I never took off the crescent moon necklace Liam gave me. It was my favorite necklace.
After I put on the earrings, Brooke got me into my dress. It was a short black dress that reached the tops of my thighs and had a low v-neck. The sleeves were lacy with flower designs, and the dress was also covered in the same lace. It was cute, but way too revealing.
"It's a little short, don't ya think," I said, pulling down the ends.
"It's fine," Brooke said, slapping my hands away. "I was aiming for sexy, and that's what we got. Now, go show Liam."
"What!" I yelped. "You never said anything about showing Liam!"
She rolled her eyes. "What, you think I did this for Tyler? No, I wanted Li to see how hot you'd look, so maybe he'd ask you on a date!"
I shook my head. "He's my best friend, Bree. I'd never go on a date with him, it'd ruin our friendship!"
"Yeah, sure. Whatever you say."
"What time is it?"
"Seven thirty."
I stared at her incredulously. "It took you five and a half hours to get me ready!"
She shrugged. "I had a lot of work to do."
"You just straightened my hair and did my make-up!"
"And it took time deciding what to do with your hair and make-up. Honestly, these things don't just come to me off the bat. I'm not a wizard!"
"The correct term would be a witch."
"Shut up, Hayley."
I smiled and put on some perfume. Brooke also did my nails in the thirty minutes we had left, but she didn't paint any color. She only did a clear coat and got rid of the dead skin and such.
"I feel like you set it up so I would be going on a date with Liam and not Tyler," I said.
Brooke smiled. "I would totally do that, but I am in debt to him. But don't worry, I'll be texting you all throughout the date."
I grinned. "And that's why I love you. You're amazing."
"I know."
I laughed and heard a knock on the door. "That would be Tyler."
"Good luck," she said.
I rolled my eyes and walked downstairs, which was hard due to the fact I was in heels. Damn you, Brooke.
I reached the door and saw Liam opening it. Tyler was in a suit, and he did look pretty good, I will admit. But Liam would look better.
Tyler smiled when he saw me. "You look great, sweetheart."
"Don't call me that," I said, walking towards him.
Liam saw me, and his jaw dropped. "Wow, Hales. You look fantastic."
I smiled. "Thanks."
"Agreed, Hales," Tyler said.
I glowered at him. "He only gets to call me that."
Tyler nodded. "Okay. Shall we go?"
"Do I have a choice?"
He grinned. "That's the spirit!"
I walked past Liam, and he grabbed my arm. "You don't have to do this, Hayley."
I looked at him. "A deal's a deal. I'll save you some bacon, Fido."
Liam rolled his eyes and smiled. I grinned and walked to the car with Tyler. I hit Tyler's arm and got in the car. It was a nice
car, but I like my motorcycle better.
"So, where are we going?" I asked.
"Vegas," Tyler said.
I glared at him. "If you so much as go towards the county line, I will gladly kill you."
"Relax, we're just going to dinner. My family owns a nice restaurant, so we're going there. Then after that, maybe we could see a movie?"
"No movie, just dinner. That was the deal."
Tyler sighed. "I'm not such a bad guy, Hayley. I know you hate what I did, but I do really regret it."
"Sure you do," I said. "I'm not upset that you rejected me. The reason I hate you is because you're an asshat."
"What if I grew up with you, like Liam did? Would you still hate me then?"
I looked at him. "You will never take Liam's place in my life. Even if I did grow up with you, I would still hate you."
"Then I'm going to change that. You will love me, Hayley Evans."
"I highly doubt that."
I got out of the car as we pulled into the parking lot. I walked inside the restaurant, not even sparing Tyler a glance. I waited for the host to show us to our table, and he looked at us as Tyler stood next to me.
"This must be your mate, Mr. Wood," the host said.
"Yes. This is my mate, Hayley Evans," Tyler said, wrapping his arm around my waist.
"Ex mate," I said, twisting his arm so he'd let go of me. "I'm just here for the food, thanks."
The host looked at me, then at Tyler. "She's definitely got fire in her."
"Right," Tyler grumbled, rubbing his arm.
The host showed us to our table, and I sat as far away from Tyler as I could. I looked at the menu, and the waitress came with some dinner rolls and cinnamon butter at my request.
The rolls were buttery and sweet, and the butter was cinnamony. It was the best roll I ever had. If only I wasn't on a date with Tyler.
My phone buzzed, and I saw it was a text from Brooke. How's the date going?
I sent her a picture of the rolls and cinnamon butter. I'm in heaven. If only Asshat wasn't here.
She sent back a text that confused me. Turn around :).
I frowned and felt a piece of paper hit the back of my head. I got it out of my hair and turned around, ready to snap at the person. To my surprise, I saw Liam in a tux, laughing.
I looked at him surprised, and he winked at me. Holy s**t.
"What the hell is he doing here?" Tyler growled.
"I have no idea," I admitted.
Liam threw another piece of paper at me. I responded by flipping him off. I heard him laugh, and I smiled. I started talking with Tyler, just to annoy Liam.
I heard Liam mimicking me, and I grabbed a roll. "Hold on one second," I said.
I turned around and chucked the roll at him, hitting him in the head. I smiled sweetly at Tyler. "You were saying?"
My phone buzzed, and I saw a text from Liam. It's on, Hales.
I smiled and sent back: Bring it, Fido.
I heard Liam laugh, and I caught the roll he threw back at me. I grinned and saw Tyler glaring at Liam, his eyes shining gold.
"I'm going to kill him," he growled.
"Stop it," I said. "He's my friend, he's just messing with me."
"It's rude and disrespectful!" Tyler snarled. "He shouldn't treat his Alpha like that!"
"First of all," I said icily, "I'm not his Alpha nor his superior. We're the same. There's no difference, we're both werewolves. Second of all, he's my best friend. I put up with him, and he puts up with me."
"I'm going to kill him." He started to stand up.
Liam did also, but I stopped them. I grabbed Tyler's arm and twisted it, snapping the bone. "Touch my friends, and it'll be the last thing you ever do."
I stood up and walked towards Liam. "Date's over, Tyler. I did my end of the deal. Never talk to me again."
I grabbed Liam's hand and dragged him out the door.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Fine," I said. "I wanted to do more than break his arm for threatening you, but I could hardly do more damage in a public place."
Liam looked at me and grabbed my hand. "Come on, I know a place you'll love."
Frowning, I followed Liam. To my surprise, he'd ridden my motorcycle here.
"Milady," he said, helping me on to the motorcycle.
I laughed and got on. I wrapped my arms around Liam's waist, and he drove off. We drove through a forest and up a mountain.
"Where are we going?" I asked over the wind.
"A place!" Liam said.
We drove for five more minutes, then reached the top of the mountain. He parked the motorcycle and helped me off. I fixed my dress and looked at the view. We were on a cliff overlooking the city, and it was beautiful. The sky was filled with stars, and the moon was full. It was also kinda cold out, but still pretty warm.
"Dinner for two?" Liam said, holding up a picnic basket and a blanket.
I grinned. "How long have you planned this?'
He shrugged. "A while. Tonight just seemed like the perfect night for it."
"Well, it was a great idea."
Liam grinned and set the blanket down. He got out the picnic, which was spagetti and meatballs with chocolate milk. He really does know me well.
We joked and laughed all night while eating, and I shivered slightly.
"You cold?" he asked.
I shrugged. "A little bit."
Liam took off his jacket and put it around my shoulders. "Better?"
"Could use a fire," I teased.
Liam laughed, and we looked out at the city. It really was a great date. Despite it being with Tyler at the start, it ended up being a date with Liam. Who would've guessed?
