Chapter 10: A New Beginning

The sun shone brightly, as if mocking Albert behind the draperies in his and Neil’s bedroom. Their alarms had not yet gone off to signal the start of their Monday. He stared at the airy spider plant hanging in front of the window and couldn’t stop a weak smile at the considerate gesture it represented.
The smile faded quickly. Albert had failed everyone yesterday. He’d failed Neil, Cameron, his faction, all vampires worldwide, and yes…he’d even failed Dennis, utterly unsuccessful in leading the man to accept them, and barring that, making the man’s final minutes horrific rather than peaceful and unknowing of what was about to befall him.
