She dozed, and in her dream, Chantelle ran through the forest. Aware she dreamed, she experienced a strange combination of pleasure and disappointment. Two dogs chased her. The reason they hadn’t caught her was because they circled each other, sharing playful nips. She didn’t mind. The chase was fun, and the breaks allowed her to catch her breath, prolonging the run. The race neared its end. One dog circled to the front, cutting off her escape. The other persevered at her heels. Chantelle put on a spurt of speed, tried to go left.
