CHAPTER SIX: FULL OF SURPRISES

1566 Words
Max looked at his father preparing him for school. Edward ran to and fro getting little things Max would need for the day. "Dad," Max called out as Edward was busy moving from one place to another. "Yes son," Edward answered without stopping what he was doing. Max stared at his father suspiciously… "Have you done something bad?" Max asked. Now, Edward stopped what he was doing, staring at Max. "Not at all. Can't I help my son prepare for school?" Max glared after the response his father gave him. Edward went inside his room, sneaking the portion that Kyla gave him yesterday. He successfully poured some into a cup, and the rest into Max's water bottle. Max, who was busy watching TV, turned around, and saw his step mother coming out of the kitchen holding a plate of food in her hands. "Good morning Max," She greeted. "Morning Mum," Max returned the well wishes. "Did I just say Mom? And my Dad is acting all weird. Today is going to be a good day," Max reasoned. Edward went to the sitting room, picked up Max's bag, and handed it over to him. "Go and eat, and let's go to school," Edward said. "Okay," Max replied, taking his seat. Max was thirsty, he saw the cup of water on the dining table, he picked it up, and suddenly he heard a voice from behind. "You can't drink that," Edward exclaimed. Max looked back at his father charging towards him. He collected the cup from Max, and drank the contents. Edward took the table water at the far end of the table, and handed it over to Max. "Take this," Max collected the table water, and ate his food in silence… "Mm… That was close. I should have taken it since," He said to himself. "What are you talking about?" Max's stepmother asked. Edward flinched a little. "Nothing at all," He responded. He took his car keys from the mini cupboard beside the bed. "Won't you be late for work if you take Max to school?" "I already promised that I would be taking him to school today," "Okay… But, you are acting all weird today," "Was I?" "Yes, you are," "I was showing that I care," "Mm," "See you later," "Alright Max. Enjoy the day," "Sure, I will," Edward exited the room… "Are you ready Son?" Edward asked. "Yes, I am," Max answered. They walked out of the house. "We are going now!" Edward screamed, hoping Max's stepmother would hear. Seconds later, she met them at the entrance. "Bye you two," She waved. "Bye," They both responded waving back. "Make sure you eat your meal immediately when you get to work," She said, and Edward nodded his head. She closed the door behind them. "I wish today was always like this," She said. Edward dropped Max at the schoolgate. They both waved themselves goodbye, Edward drove off immediately, and Max entered the school gate alongside different students. Max entered the class, and saw Jarek and the rest of them. "Hi," Max greeted Jarek. Jarek was as surprised as anyone who heard Max greet him. Jarek gazed at Max who went directly to his seat. Jarek stood up, and later joined him. Max didn't mind him, and was busy unpacking his books. "Max, did you just say Hi to me?" Jarek asked. "Didn't you hear me?" Max responded. Jarek gasped for air, staring at Angelo, and Sasha. He stood up, shook his head as he headed off to where Sasha is because Cassy is not yet present. "When is she coming?" Jarek asked Sasha. "How am I supposed to know that?" She responded. "She is our friend now, we should know things like this about her," Jarek said. Jarek had known Sasha, and Angelo since day one. He always feels connected to anyone as long as he is okay with being with the person, and Cassy is no exception. "She was late yesterday, she might be late today too, and would be late in the coming days," Sasha said. "Don't term her a latecomer, that's not fair," Angelo spoke from behind. Jarek and Sasha stared at Angelo. Seconds later, Cassy entered. Jarek looked at Cassy until she got to her seat. "Good morning," Cassy greeted. "Morning Cassy," Everyone greeted, but only Jarek smiled. Cassy pointed at where Jarek was sitting, and she used her wrist upward, gesturing to Jarek to stand up from her seat. "Oh oh sorry," Jarek said, standing up from her seat. "I was worried about you," Jarek added. Cassy stared at Jarek. "That's nice of you. Thank you," Cassy responded. No supernatural being is allowed to shift, or say anything to humans concerning their status. If they were caught, it is death by hanging. Since then things had been peaceful in Askarvard. "There is a basketball game today against our class, and our seniors," Jarek told anyone who was attentive enough to answer. But, unexpectedly to answer that question, Angelo's nemesis walked through the door. "Yes, and we would beat them regardless," One of the bullies, Zed, spoke out. The other two joined him as they went over to their seats. Zed went over to Angelo, and Jarek was getting ready to attack upon any act of bullying Angelo is about to receive from Zed and his friends. "Hey Tortoise… Slow shifter," Zed s*****d Angelo's head. Jarek who had been ready to retaliate, because he knows Angelo won't. Jarek ran, locked Zed's shirt, and pushed him forward without letting go of him. He pushed Zed to the wall. "Why will you call my friend a tortoise? And why a slow shifter? I have only read that in books when werewolves shift," Jarek asked, and some of the students who weren't paying attention gazed upon Jarek. Zed raised his hands up. "I don't want to fight you," "Fight with me… I dare you," Jarek protested. The chaos was cut short as one of the teachers entered. Immediately, Jarek left Zed, and helped Zed adjust his rumpled shirt. "What's happening here?" The teacher asked. The teacher looked at Jarek, Zed, and the class… "Nothing Ma'am, we are just playing," Jarek said, staring at Zed. "Is that true?" The teacher asked Zed. Zed stared back at Jarek. "Yes, everything is fine… we are just playing around," "Alright then, go back to your seats," The teacher said. IN ASKARVARD MAGAZINES, everyone is busy as usual, but Alde and his friend had time to gist about what they saw yesterday. "Passa City is real," Alde told Lukas. Lukas adjusted his glasses. "How true? Show me proof," Lukas asked. "I didn't have much time to take pictures," Alde responded. "Next time, please do," Lukas said. "Or...maybe we can quickly zoom off during lunch," Lukas suggested. Alde gazed at the manager's office, and Lukas followed Alde's gaze. "He won't know we are gone. It won't take time," Lukas assured. At 1PM, the bell rang, the teacher left the class, and all the students felt relieved. "Why are the classes today boring?" A student asked not to wait for anyone to answer. "Zed, the game starts in 15minutes. Let's go and prepare," one of his friends told him, and his other friend stood up, and exited the door alongside Zed. Jarek patted Angelo on the back. "You alright?" Jarek asked. "Sure," Angelo responded. "Can I ask you a question?" Jarek said. "Sure," Angelo replied. Sasha and Cassy watched Jarek as he stood in front of Angelo. "Are you a werewolf?" Jarek cut to the chase. "I mean, that bas--, I mean - Zed called you a tortoise, a slow shifter. What does that mean?" Angelo's hands began to shake, he stopped what he was doing, and he stared at Jarek. "What do you mean?" Angelo boldly asked. "I really made myself clear didn't I?" Jarek said, glaring at Angelo. "I'm sure you are hiding something from me. And if I find out, you might lose my trust!" Jarek threatened. The conversation was discontinued when one of the younger students came in. "Sorry," Everyone stared at the doorstep, they saw a little girl, not more than the age of 5. "The basketball coach asked me to call Jarek," The little girl relayed the message. Jarek went ahead to meet the little girl… "For what?" "I don't know. I was just instructed to come fetch you," Jarek pivoted his head, looking at Angelo. Turned around to meet the eyes of the little girl diligently looking at him. "Let's go," Jarek said. "Zed really wants to get Angelo killed by using Jarek," One of the students said. Sasha walked over to Angelo. "No matter what, do not spill anything if you really want to stay alive," Sasha said, and Angelo nodded his head. "Do you have water?" Angelo asked. "No, I don't," Sasha responded. Angelo stared at Cassy, and Cassy moved her head left to right answering his question. Then, he turned to Max. Max went over to his locker at the back of the class, he opened it up, and gave Angelo his water. Angelo gulped down a little from the bottle, and handed the bottle back to Max. "Thank you," Angelo thanked Max. "You welcome," Max responded. Angelo starts feeling his tongue with the upper layer inside his mouth. "Are you sure this is water?" Angelo asked. "Yes, I suppose," Max responded.
