Blood and Betrayal

711 Words
The weight of the previous night still clung to Isabelle like a second skin. The revelation of her wolf bloodline had cracked the foundation of everything she believed about herself, but she had no time to dwell on it. The world she had walked into was far more dangerous than she had realized. Adrian’s cryptic words echoed in her mind: You are the queen they’ve been waiting for. A New Dawn, A New Threat Sunlight poured through the grand windows of her penthouse, yet it did little to chase away the shadows in her thoughts. She stood by the glass, gripping a steaming cup of coffee, but her appetite had vanished. Linda sat across from her, fingers flying across her laptop, scanning through financial statements. “Your uncle’s been busy,” Linda muttered, eyes narrowing at the screen. “Victor just transferred a significant amount of stock into an offshore account. He’s making moves to destabilize the company.” Isabelle’s grip tightened around the cup. “He’s planning a coup.” Linda nodded. “Not just that. The aristocrats are backing him. He’s aligning himself with the old bloodline faction.” A slow exhale left Isabelle’s lips. So, it had begun. The war for control—of both her company and her bloodline—was in motion. That night, Isabelle had a meeting with the company’s top investors to reassure them of her leadership. The sleek black dress she wore was more than fashion—it was armor. She had no intention of showing weakness. The moment she stepped into the private lounge of the five-star hotel, she sensed something was off. Her instincts, newly heightened since her transformation, prickled at the back of her neck. She wasn’t alone. The attack came swiftly. Shadows moved from the corners of the room. Three men—wolves, by their scent—lunged for her. But they had underestimated her. With a feral growl, she sidestepped the first attacker, using his own momentum against him. He crashed into the marble table. The second slashed at her with silver-tipped claws. Isabelle twisted, the blade barely missing her throat. She grabbed his wrist, snapping it with a sickening c***k. The third attacker hesitated. A fatal mistake. A gunshot rang out. The man collapsed, blood pooling beneath him. Adrian stood in the doorway, g*n still smoking. His golden eyes locked onto hers. “I told you, you’d need me.” Isabelle scowled. “I had it handled.” Adrian smirked. “Of course you did.” The attackers weren’t ordinary wolves. They bore the insignia of the aristocrats. But more importantly, they had inside information. Someone had leaked her whereabouts. Only a handful of people knew about this meeting. Her stomach twisted. There was only one possibility. Victor. Back at her estate, Isabelle confronted him. He didn’t even bother denying it. “You were never meant to lead,” Victor sneered, swirling a glass of bourbon in his hand. “You’re an anomaly, Isabelle. You don’t belong to the company, and you certainly don’t belong to the pack.” Her hands clenched into fists. “And you think you do?” “I have the backing of those who matter. The aristocrats recognize the rightful rulers.” Isabelle laughed coldly. “You mean the cowards who cling to the past? Let me guess—they promised you power if you delivered me.” Victor’s silence confirmed it. “You’re a traitor,” she said, voice ice-cold. “And I don’t tolerate traitors.” By the time the sun rose, Victor had fled. Adrian was waiting for her at her office, leaning casually against her desk as if he owned the place. “Well?” he asked. “Are you ready to accept my offer now?” Isabelle met his gaze head-on. “I don’t need saving.” He chuckled. “Who said anything about saving? This is about winning.” She exhaled sharply. Victor’s betrayal had changed everything. If she wanted to protect her legacy, her company, and her life, she needed to strike first. “Fine,” she said. “But make no mistake, Adrian—I am not yours to control.” His wolfish grin sent a shiver down her spine. “We’ll see.”
