The Unwanted Bond

The tension in the air was palpable. Isabelle sat across from Adrian in her office, his golden eyes burning into hers with that same infuriating mix of amusement and dominance. She had barely recovered from Victor’s betrayal, and now Adrian was presenting a different kind of challenge—one she had no intention of accepting. “You need me, Isabelle.” Adrian leaned back in the chair, his powerful frame relaxed, but his voice was sharp as a blade. “You need my resources. My protection. My pack.” Isabelle crossed her arms, refusing to be intimidated. “I don’t need a leash around my neck, Adrian.” He smirked. “Who said anything about a leash? I’m offering you power.” She narrowed her eyes. “In exchange for what?” He didn’t hesitate. “Marriage.” Silence fell between them. Outside, the city hummed with life, but in this moment, her world shrank to the space between her and Adrian. Finally, she let out a cold laugh. “You’re out of your mind.” His smirk widened. “Am I?” She stood abruptly, pacing to the window. “You think I’ll just sign away my independence to you? Because you saved me once or twice?” Adrian’s voice remained maddeningly calm. “Because it’s the only way to secure your place in this world. The aristocrats won’t stop coming for you. The Silver Blades won’t rest until they see you dead. And Victor—he isn’t finished yet.” Her jaw tightened. She hated that he was right. She turned, eyes flashing. “I will never be anyone’s pawn. Not the aristocrats’. Not the hunters’. And certainly not yours.” Adrian rose slowly, prowling toward her like the predator he was. “This isn’t about submission, Isabelle. It’s about survival.” “I’ll find another way.” His hand brushed against her wrist, just for a second, sending a jolt through her. “Will you?” She pulled away, breathing unsteady. “Get out.” Adrian exhaled sharply but didn’t push further. He simply inclined his head, his gaze dark with meaning. “You’ll come to me, sooner than you think.” With that, he was gone, leaving Isabelle to wrestle with the storm he had unleashed inside her. That night, she barely slept. By morning, her instincts screamed that something was wrong. Linda burst into her office, eyes wide with alarm. “You need to see this.” She turned her laptop around, showing security footage. Isabelle’s stomach clenched. A group of armed men had been spotted near her estate—Silver Blades. “They’re coming for you,” Linda whispered. Isabelle straightened, determination hardening her features. “Then let them try.” By nightfall, they struck. Isabelle had expected an attack, but not the sheer force of it. Explosions rocked the outer perimeter of her estate. She moved swiftly, shifting into her wolf form for the first time in combat. The rush of power was exhilarating. But the Silver Blades were prepared. Silver-tipped bullets whizzed past her, burning the air. She fought viciously, tearing through their ranks, but there were too many. A blade slashed across her arm, searing pain making her stumble. Then a deep snarl echoed through the battlefield. Adrian. He tore through the hunters like a force of nature, his pack following close behind. The fight ended in minutes. The remaining Silver Blades fled, leaving behind only bodies and blood. Adrian turned to her, breathing hard. “Still think you don’t need me?” She wiped blood from her lip, glaring at him. “This doesn’t change anything.” He chuckled darkly. “Oh, Isabelle. It changes everything.” The once-pristine grounds of Isabelle’s estate were now littered with the aftermath of battle. Smoke curled into the night air, and the scent of blood lingered. Linda rushed out, her face pale as she took in the wreckage. “Holy s**t, Isabelle…” Isabelle pressed a hand against her wounded shoulder but stood firm. “We need to secure the area. Find out if any of them are still alive. We need information.” Adrian approached, his gaze assessing her. “Your people can clean up the mess, but you need medical attention.” “I’m fine,” she snapped. He exhaled, clearly suppressing a growl. “Stubborn woman.” She ignored him, focusing on the bodies. A few of the Silver Blades were still breathing. Perfect. “Tie them up. We’re going to find out exactly who sent them and why they knew where I live.” Adrian watched her, arms crossed. “You’re relentless.” She met his gaze. “You have no idea.” Hours later, Isabelle sat in her study, bandaged but resolute. Linda and her security team worked in the background, interrogating the captured hunters. But her focus was on Adrian, who lounged across from her with that knowing smirk. “So? Have you reconsidered my proposal?” he asked lazily. She exhaled. “I don’t trust you.” He shrugged. “Trust isn’t necessary for a political alliance.” “Marriage isn’t just an alliance,” she shot back. Adrian leaned forward, his expression shifting to something more serious. “For our kind, it is. It’s power. Protection. And whether you like it or not, Isabelle, you’re a queen without a throne. The Silver Blades won’t stop. The aristocrats won’t stop. You need a pack. You need an Alpha.” She stared at him, torn between defiance and the undeniable truth in his words. Then he smirked. “And let’s be honest—you like the idea of standing beside someone just as ruthless as you.” Her heart pounded, but she refused to let him see the effect he had on her. Instead, she stood. “I’ll consider it. But on my terms.” Adrian chuckled. “Oh, Isabelle. This is going to be fun.”
