"Imbecile!" Emmett roared.
"b***h!" Skye said while the words slithered out his mouth after Emmett swung a right hook at his jaw. Two boys fighting weren't big news around here. It happens frequently and it's the same cats going at it, but about something new. Today Skye was hitting on Emmett's girlfriend- again. Skye sundered into the lockers as his cheek darkened to a magenta. His knees buckled in as he lied on the platform, letting his back rest against the blue mushed and mingled lockers. Skye surrendered below Emmett with his hands raising over his head.
"Had enough, pretty boy?"
Skye looked up; his eyes so fierce with furry he couldn't hold back a curl in his lips. "Not at all," the bruised cheek color had almost looked unrecognizable; it was bluing. Skye pushed himself back up with his hands; Emmett flexed his muscles as he was about to strike again. Clenched his fist and jabbed at Skye's rib; he led out a mournful groan. His body tightened, his stomach sucked in as he took another beating.
He became fed up and surly let out a fuming high-pitch shout and that was when Emmett jumped back. Skye's eyes began to blend with his pupils as it morphed in a shade darker than a raven's feather. His body slowly mutated, his bones rigid in its flesh and meat. We could hear his skin tear like a piece of paper into two. We could smell the wet dog fur coiling out his fractured flesh as it curled back and the hair overlapped his pink meat. Tensely growing into a hybrid, Skye dipped his head down and then c****d it back up with his nostrils flaring and mist strolling out.
Emmett yanked his axe from behind his back, whirling it back in forth in his hands. Roué and I laughed as we continued walking down the hallway, switching glances back at the fight and then each other. As Emmett swung his powerful tool over his head and down on Skye's back, she turned away from the fight with her lips curling down and her eyes wincing.
"We all know how this goes," she rolled her bored eyes towards me. "Emmett gets his medieval ax from off his hunched back-"she said giving me a hard nudge on my chest.
"And Skye turns into Mr. Big Bad Wolf and tries to scare the hell out of everyone." I finished her sentence. I leaned in close to her face as we were nose to nose. I could feel my heart thud intensely when her breath hit against the roof of my neck. The teachers break the lock between Roue and I while dashing to the fight behind us- to Skye and Emmett's fight. My arm flings back as I'm trying to catch my balance. I hear a faint giggle. There was a smile, a squeamish laugh squawking out her mouth, her nose scrunching, and her cheeks puffing up.
"You think they'll ever let it go?"
"Who, Skye?" I hitched a thumb behind us, "in your dreams."
"I mean the both of them; obviously she's toying with Skye and Emmett. When you think Emmett's gonna get his head out his ass and wake up and see cave woman are just as bad as peeing on plants?"
I started agreeing with her before I repeated her last phrase with precision. And just letting her words spiral around like a torpedo in my head, it just started sounding like nonsense was running out her mouth. "What?" I reached for her wrist and pulled her to a halt. "Peeing on plants?"
"You know that's the cause of pollution and Global Warming, right? People think they can step all over them and not have a single consequence. Well, not anymore. They're taking back what's theirs!"
"You're kidding?"
Roue shrugged, "Maybe. I failed the Verdure class again, so they could be plotting all our deaths or something for all we know."
"Just in case, remind me to pick up some weed killer after school." Her cheeks had risen high and her lips stretch to each dimple. She looked absolutely stunning when she smiled. The way she flipped her blue hair back over her shoulder, and place her hand over her mouth when she was too embarrassed of her smile. It was like looking at thunder strike the same place over and over. Roue had long blue hair; cascading down her back like a waterfall. She had large brown eyes that reminded me of an oak. She pulled her flipped hair to the front and began braiding small strands.
