Chapter 31: Dream

1455 Words
“What dream, Leui?” Mhir asked as they walked down the road, the grass hitting their feet and the petals of the lilac flowers were falling on them. “I’m not sure.” Leui honestly answered. “I… seem to be dreaming of a life that isn’t mine.” He said. Mhir giggled as she watched the flower fairies made a crown of flowers and placed it on her head. Because Leui became dizzy earlier, the two of them made a stop in the Rainbow Village and the wagon’s driver offered them to stay in his house. He has a wife and two kids. As Mhir thanked them, the kids pulled her to play on the flower field and Leui, after he drank medicine and rested, followed them. “Do you remember the details of your dream?” Mhir asked. Leui reached out his hand and caught a falling lilac petal. “Earlier, I dreamt I was talking to someone.” He said. “I asked them what color do they like the most.” “What did the other person answer?” Mhir asked. “They said – “ Leui said and stopped when he saw a petal that differed among the billions of lilac petals around them. He raised his hand to reach it, yet when he touched it, he hesitated. “ – red.” He looked at the red petal of the flower. “Why?” Mhir asked and also stopped when she saw the single red petal. Leui lowered his hand and just stared at the red petal. “ – I can’t remember.” He frowned. “Do you remember what the other person looked like?” she asked. Leui helplessly shook his head and sighed. “I can’t remember more.” He told her. Mhir sighed, feeling disappointed. “What’s the meaning behind this…?” she muttered. Leui saw her worried expression and he smiled. “I started dreaming after I got this scythe.” He said and pointed the scythe on his back. Mhir looked at the scythe. “That scythe… is Lord Loheiruchel’s.” she said. Leui nodded. “Could it be… what I am dreaming are his memories?” he asked. Mhir’s eyes widened and sparkled. She turned to Leui. “There’s a possibility that it is!” she said. Leui fell into deep thinking. “Then, this person he was talking to… it’s his wife?” he said. He remembered that Loheiruchel had a wife – a male elf. Earlier, he daydreamed when he had thought of Tinum. Now that he thinks about it, Loheiruchel is a human and he is also a human. Loheiruchel’s wife is a male elf and the person he likes is also a male elf. They had many similarities. “Say, Mhir. What does this Loheiruchel look like?” he asked. “He’s handsome!” Mhir immediately answered. Leui forced a laugh. “I mean, his appearance.” He said. “He – “ Mhir said and paused. “ – I don’t know much, either.” She said, “I though he’s your idol.” Leui said. Mhir’s brows knit. “My like isn’t limited to appearance!” she said. “I like Lord Loheiruchel because of his benevolence and greatness!” she explained. “Alright, alright. No need to be aggressive.” Leui told her and patted her head. “What I dreamt earlier must be him and his wife talking to each other.” He said. “And… they seemed to pass by here – the Rainbow Village.” He added. Mhir’s eyes widened as big as saucers. “So they have been here before?!” she asked as she twirled around the flower field, giggling. “Lord Loheiruchel has been here! His wife also has been here!” she shouted as she ran around the flower field. Leui laughed as he followed after her. “Hey. Who knows what Loheiruchel looks like?” he asked after some time. Mhir turned to him and continued to walk while facing him. “The ones who have seen Lord Loheiruchel are those who had lived in his era.” She answered. “My grandpa is one of them.” She said, “So, he’s the one who turned you into a Loheiruchel fanatic?” Leui muttered. “He hasn’t told you what Loheiruchel looked like?” he asked. Mhir shook his head. “I never asked.” She said and faced the road. Leui pondered while walking behind Mhir. “Where can we see portraits of him?” he asked. “Only the castle has Lord Loheiruchel’s portraits.” Mhir answered. “They were in the throne room.” She added. “Then, we can return the scythe to the king and look at Loheiruchel’s portrait while we’re there.” Leui suggested. Mhir’s eyes lit up. “Brilliant idea!” she said and laughed. Leui smiled as they walked back to the house of the wagon’s driver. The sun slowly rose at its peak and shone on them. The sunlight hit Leui’s hair, and his hair turned red. In the castle, the king listened to the knight captain’s report. “A whole group of merchants went missing near the Rainbow Village.” He said. “The families of the victims that escaped said they saw the wagons at the front suddenly disappear on the road. They immediately escaped after that.” He explained. Khander rubbed his temple and looked at the knight captain. “How are the victims’ families?” he asked. “The children said they saw a big spider appear when their father disappeared.” The knight captain answered. “Their mother forced them not to speak, but the children…” he didn’t continue. The children cannot lie. Thus, there must be a giant spider hiding on the road of the Rainbow Village. “How long had they been missing?” Khander asked. “Two days.” The knight captain answered. Rainbow Village is two days away from the Capital. Two days… that was when the full moon ended. Khander was very worried. This is just one of the many accidents that occurred for the past month. And their number kept increasing. “Send people to check on the Rainbow Village.” He told them. “Feed the victims’ families and find them a place to stay. They’ve traveled far.” He told the knight captain. “Yes, Your Majesty.” The knight captain answered and bowed. Then, he rose from the floor and left. However, just as he went out he met Eliese. “You Highness Fleur.” He greeted and knelt before her. The knights waiting for the knight captain have been kneeling since she appeared. Fleur Eliese nodded and passed by them, going to the direction where the knight captain left. “Sir. The Fleur is really beautiful.” One of them said when the princess disappeared from their sight. The other nodded. “Yes. However… the Fleur is too cold.” He said. “That’s because the king has no other children aside from her.” the knight said. “If the king is heartless, the Fleur will be sent across the sea and marry the crown prince of the Sallia Kingdom.” He said. The Sallia Kingdom, like them, is the human kingdom of the Sallia Continent. “But she’s kind.” The knight captain said. The two knights looked at him. “She may have a cold exterior, but she has a kind heart.” He said, his gaze in the direction where the princess left. The knights looked at each other, a meaningful smile on their face. It’s no secret that their knight captain - Fedrey, likes Fleur Eliese. It was because the Fleur saved him when he was young. From then on, he worked hard to become the knight of the captains and protect the kingdom. Fedrey removed his gaze and turned to the two knights. He has a serious expression on his face. “Arrange people to go to the Rainbow Village.” He told them. “Yes, sir!” the knights answered and saluted. Then, they hurriedly left. Fedrey turned back and looked at the entrance of the castle. After a while he left.
