Chapter 2-Promotion

Isabella 's**t I'm late.' Running through the lobby with my books, my papers in my hand I gasps trying to catch my breath. Until I had reach the elevator, where I could relax even if it's just for a few seconds. It's all Mr. Chapman's fault. Why he chose today to show up thirty minutes late. I had told him I had to be else where but did he listen, no. Instead he spoke about his divorce when his wife left him for another man. It's sad really to be married for twenty six years only to fall out of love and in love with another. I shouldn't talk really after all who knows what goes in ones mind when their hearts tells them, hey I don't care if I have a family, makes them self fish, self centered, greedy... Oh boo hoo, cry me a river. Everyone has it worse and here he was Mr. Chapman as he was just wallowing in self pity. 'Ding' The elevator stop on my floor as I rushed out. "You're late." Stacy spoke sternly from across the room. "And why are your heels in your hands instead of your feet." "I kn...ow..." my breath waned as my toe had stubbed one of the desk causing the papers that I was holding in my hands to fall onto the floor. My knees had collapsed as I caught myself on a near by desk. "Bell." I cringed at the voice before looking up. He looked pissed at me, one I was late, and two I was now the center of attention on this entire floor. Shaking his head to the side, "What am I going to do with you?" He bent down to my height on the floor before helping me pick up my papers." "Sorry sir, it's just that..." I tried to explain my situation but he would never hear me out instead he had patted my head. "Now gather your things and settle down on your desk then head to my office, we have a lot to discuss." "Right away sir." I couldn't tell what mood he was in. Granted he was a good boss, my boss, but he was always moody and his daughter is the result of that. Men these days always having woman trouble. I haven't met his daughter but from the looks of gray hair sprouting on sir's head well I bet spending daddy's money could do that to any man. After all my boss once spent a whole day with me talking about his daughter buying the next clothing trend. Really, how many clothes can you buy. You only have one body and there are seven days in a week. What ever happened to doing laundry. Gathering my papers I stacked them neatly on my desk. I had work at this company part time only as an intern to do small task like answering phones, and organizing and such, but that was it. It was never suppose to be me, in fact another woman was chosen for the job because she was more qualified than me but my boss I guess had taken pity on me and only gave me jobs that doesn't do too much. For this I am grateful and once I am through with my courses I would be able to do more. "What do you think the boss called you in for?" I looked up from my desk to see Stacy chomping on an apple. She was always the nosy type, the ones always gossiping. Shrugging my shoulders I marched into the boss's office where he had told me to take a seat. "My dear Bell," he smiled with a twinkle in his eyes. Okay so he is in a good mood. "Yes sir." "How long have you worked for me?" "Almost two years sir." I responded curtly. "That's right." Standing up from his desk, he came around the front sitting on the edge of his desk, his legs crossed just smiling at me like a fool. "I have wonderful news for you my dear." My ears perked up, this morning I had woken up late only to be yelled at and now this, "And what is that sir?" "You are receiving a promotion." A promotion? I couldn't contain my excitement any longer as my smile only grew wider. "Really?" "Of course my dear, you will be the new secretary to Mr. Dylan Saunders." "Mr. Dylan Saunders?" What does that name sound so familiar? "You may have notice the huge name outside of this building Saunders Enterprise. Holy s**t, of course! "The CEO!" It sounded more like a question. "But why would he need me after all I am just an intern." It's true. This job matches my schedule and it helps me with other financial needs. "My dear Bell you are just what he needs." "But doesn't he look for a person who at last has some kind of college degree." I would assume all his employees that he hires are all sophisticated and intelligent so why in hell would he ever want someone who is just a lowly intern. "You are not just a lowly intern. In all the days you have worked for me, you are more qualified than those stuck up brown nose. You are a hard worker and a bright young woman," He huffed while winking at me, "Screw degree, if he is looking for an employee with an IQ of two hundred well good luck to him because they don't exists." I blinked at the old man. "Think about it, your pay will triple then what I am paying you and the benefits is through the roof?" What he is saying is true. This could help me a lot and I mean this could get me out of the home I live in today. Which I am not complaining after all it puts a roof over my head but the neighbor hood is not oriented friendly. Besides working for the CEO does have its perks and how will that look on my resume. "What does that position entails?" I know I am his secretary and I only do minor things but to be a secretary of the head boss well I am sure it won't be the same. "That's the thing, HR never told me just asked me for a capable, reliable, competent employee of mine but I am sure Mr. Saunders will tell you more about your position." I never heard much about Mr. Saunders, he seems to always kept his personal life private so it got me wondering what he was like. I do hope he is cool like my boss here. "But my schedule, clearly he wouldn't be flexible will he?" "Can you not work around it?" "Unfortunately I am already cutting it close." Regrettable I am unable to switch things around. If I could, I would in a heart beat but he needs me and I am already spending time away from him. Watching my boss pick up the phone, "Mr. Saunders this is from finance and I regret to inform you that our secretary HR had suggested is unable to match your schedule." He paused and once in a while gave in a hmm...and okay...I couldn't very well hear the other line but his expression gave nothing away. Hanging up the phone he looked at me, "Well what did he say?" "You start in ten minutes." He chuckled. "What! But I thought..." "No can do, dear apparently he needs someone to clean his office asap." Clean his office? "Why don't he ask for the janitors?" "Who knows but talk to him an explain, I am sure he can be flexible in your schedule." "Are you sure?" He looked perplex, which had me worried, "Go on my dear, show him that you are capable of handling anything." Smiling I rose from my seat, "Okay I will do it and if he doesn't like my work schedule?" "Then you can always come back here." Hugging him, "Thank you for this." Though I may have only known him for only about two years he was like a father figure to me. Well he is like that with every one and to not work for him does sadden me but to work for someone bigger will open doors for me. "Isabella." He had spoken my name with great authority, "Good luck." Before I could say anything else he left me with a feeling of a new found sensation, and I can't wait to meet the great Mr. Saunders." It's a slow beginning but it will get better, please vote and comment.
