Waves crashing peacefully wake me. I tighten my hold on Laurel as I glace over her shoulder out of the open balcony door. Her birthday is next week, and I brought them to the Hawaiian villa for a little family celebration. I had to add on to it to accommodate our family and maybe I bought the one on the property next to this one for my dad or Granddad to come along. I also cheated this trip and brought a nanny with us. Usually we watch our kids ourselves on trips, but I want to spend a little time with my wife alone. Dad is joining us tomorrow.
I look down at my sleeping wife hardly believing we’ve been married for almost seven years. I kiss her shoulder and see her smile slowly. She opens her eyes and I stare at her for a minute. “Something wrong Ellis?” She asks softly.
