Just then little Lucian in his mother's arms stirred while opening his eyes. Anna, seeing his eyes open, gasped with her eyes wide open. "Are... are th..ose his .. his eyes?" Anna spoke with her voice shaking. She had never seen eyes so different as those of her son. " Yes, I was about to inform you of those. It seems our little Lucian is a special one. I have never seen eyes as enchanting as those, but ...but" Lizzy said, and hesitated, she was all confused and wasn't so sure of her speculations. Besides, it was her first time seeing something so different. " but what? aunt Lizzy, is something wrong? Is my son sick?" Anna asked while panicking. " No .. no he's fine. I checked his pulse and everything seemed alright, but ..." before she could continue, a wail came from little Lucian's lips. " I think he's hungry. You should feed him." Lizzy suggested, hearing Lucian's wails.
Anna began to breast-feed Lucian, while she asked, " what did you say is wrong with him?" seeing the hesitant look on Lizzy's face, she persisted, " Aunt Lizzy, please tell me, I need to know. " Lizzy sighed and spoke, " I am not sure, but I think little Lucian is blind" "bli...nd?? how?, does it have anything to do with the look of his eyes?" Anna asked with despair while waving her palm before lucian's eyes, but the baby did'nt blink once, Anna directed her index finger toward Lucian's left eye, there was no reaction. Not even a single blinking of his eyelids.
Anna started panicking, "Is he really blind?" Anna asked in tears. " Could all this be related to his father? I don't know exactly what he looked like or even the color of his eyes. Do you think this is bad, Aunt Lizzy?" Anna asked this time with a horrified look. She feared her son might have some unknown ailment related to the man that slept with her.
Lizzy, seeing the fear in her eyes, held her hands and comforted her," Anna, little Lucian is fine, no matter what he is, whether blind or not, he is ours and we will take care of him. We will train him into a great man one day." Lizzy said firmly. There was no doubt she meant every word she said. Anna smiled and nodded, she was also determined to look after her child no matter what.
5 years later
"Lucian! Lucian!!" Anna shouted after setting the table for dinner. After receiving no responses, she went to the back yard. There she saw little Lucian's adorable figure clutching behind an old log, playing with a snail. " Lucian?... " Anna called. Little Lucian raised his head up and stared at his mother. " mother!!" he shouted with a big smile on his face. " I just made a new friend" he said, showing the snail to his mother. " Okay, that's a cute little friend" Anna said while feeling a little sorry for the poor thing. Because Lucian couldn't really see, he held the snail upside down, while he kept pulling its tentacles. " Mother look, its legs are so thin" Lucian said unintentionally squeezing it. " No honey, they are not its legs that's its tentacles, now lets put our little friend down and go have dinner" Anna said fearing the snail might die. " but mother, he doesn't want to go, when i tried leaving it behind, it didn't move at all" lucian said looking concerned. " ooh trust me honey it really wants to leave, its probally asking God why He created it so slow" Anna said sounding amused. " Now lets put it down and go have dinner, the food will turn cold. am sure our little friend here will be fine on its own."
