Edward rode with Katrina, Mark, Rhonda with Josh driving the Hummer. Alpha Giest, Sabrina, Ace and Handley were in another Hummer and Giest had 5 of his best warriors follow them.
"Something in the letter from you and Mom said something about leaving me with them and with a key. Do you know where that letter came from?" Katrina asked Edward.
"What did it say again?" He wanted to be clear.
"It said that Uncle was to take care of me and keep me hidden. That they left the key with me. Something along those lines." Karrina said as Josh confirmed with a nod.
"I am going to say that is fraudulent. We were never letting you go." Edward was dismissive. "Where did you find that?"
"I found it when I was looking for clues at her house. She had been kidnapped right in front of me. The only place I knew to start was at her house." Josh changed lanes "It was with a photo of all three of you. "
"hummm that seems legitimate. I will have to take a closer look at the letter. I know I didn't write it." Edward looked a little like a vampire with his shiny black hair he decided to keep long, his pale skin and electric blue eyes. He wore dark sunglasses because the sun still bothered his eyes.
"Yeah, when we stop for the night." Katrina said.
"We are not stopping. We have plenty of people to drive us through the night. MaryBeth suffers everyday and we cannot delay." Edward had a point and everyone nodded in agreement.
The Lycan Kingdom
Miriam stood looking out over the land from her balcony. She wondered how it got this bad. The sun was setting and the golden orange hues danced over the trees as thier leaves waved at her in the breeze. She had only wanted to remain young, she didn't need to rule for all of eternity. Her fear of death got them to where they are standing today. She thought back to that fateful day.
She had taken a walk in the woods and her daughter had decided to not go with her. She was growing up so fast. "Mom, I found a grey hair" she had teased just that morning. The depression was sometimes so overwhelming she just needed to let it out. She heard her daughters little voice echo in her mind over and over again.
She sat down by a tree and started to cry. She knew it was over responsive and irrational but it took over anyway. She was ugly face crying when a hand touched her shoulder. She looked up and saw this woman standing their smiling at her. At the time she didn't see it but now remembering back there was evil in that smile. Maybe because of everything it had done to her and her family ever since, but it was there in the beginning.
"What is wrong your Majesty?" She looked around, her brown hair in tangles along her shoulders unkept and unwashed it looked for days. "How can I help you?" She croched next to her to give her comfort.
Miriam knew she shouldin't but she did, she let it all out to this stranger. How fearful she was of getting old and dying, being without her family. What if they all rejected her in her feble old age? She wished there was a way she could stop time and stay young forever. She almost couldn't stop once it started. The girls just looked at her and listened without judgement in her eyes.
"I have someone that could help you with that. He is a powerful wizzard. Would you like me to bring him here your Majesty."
Miriam looked long a hard at her making the young girl shift a little under her gaze. Her Lycan was telling her not to follow her, not to trust her but Miriam pushed her aside. She never wanted her family to leave her. She stood up and took the girls hand "Lead the way."
They walked for about an hour when they came up on a campsite. Miriam thought she knew every single place in the Kingdom but she had never seen this place.
There was 2 wood shacks lopsidedly put together with the doors just cut out and a peice of cloth hanging for a door. The campfire was in the middle with well worn paths leading in and out at various spots into the woods. It looked desserted to her. The breeze opened on of the doors sllightly and she could see someone inside. Her Lycan was screaming at her to run and she almost did, she almost turned and ran away. But she did not agaisnt her better judgement and her Lycan she stayed. To her, her family was the most important thing.
A skinny man stepped out of the shack, he was dressed in dark blue with a long black cape on. His hair was a bit past his shoulders and looked dirty. His beard was short and uneven looking as if he didn't care about his appearance. He smiled a big smile "My Queen" He bowed appropriately. His eyes were small and beady against his rather large nose making him look a bit like a mouse. Every fiber in her body was telling her to get out, to run fast as the wind.
It was like slow motion as he bowed and she offered her hands as she is supposed to. It was almost an automatic response, one she had done her entire life. He kissed her hand and she felt it. She felt warmth from him and she relaxed. She trusted him completely after that. He had cast a spell on her. Powerful he was indeed.
"My Queen, won't you join me and tell what your heart seeks." He stood up and bowed from his hips and held out his arm inviting her back into the shack he had come from.
"It would be my pleasure." She smiled at him feeling almost giddy. She entered the dark shack and he turned to look and make sure no one else was there and then pulled the cloth over the door making it almost pitch black.
Miriam had found a seat on a bench there was 2 along the inside parimeter of the shack.
He sat across from her "Tell me what brings you here. Your eyes look sad, I will help you anyway I can." He stoked the small fire between them. She looked at him and saw the fire reflection dancing in his eyes and it mezmorized her. She couldn't look away from her.
"I want to stay young forever. I never want to get old and my family to toss me aside." She sounded monotone to herself.
"Do you want me to help you with that? There will be a price." He stood up, she folled his gaze, she couldn't look away.
"I do. I don't care about the price." She was even more monotone with her words. She was fully under his spell now and he knew it.
He walked around the fire but the fire still danced in his eyes. "The price is a peice of your soul."
"I don't care about the price." She was looking up at him standing right next to her. She could smell his rotten smell, but she couldn't move. She was stuck inside herself not able to control her body anymore.
He pulled her hair forcing to look up even more at him. He bent down bringing his lips within millimeters of her. She could smell his putrid breath then a dark shadow flowed from his mouth to hers. She could feel it enter her lungs making them feel small and hard. It was painful like shards of glass splintering running through her veins. She let out a scream that could be heard for miles and then gasped for air. Certain she was dying as her world turned black.
Miriam recalled that moment as the sun slipped away from sight and the stars began to glimmer. A single tear slid down her cheek because she knew what they done to her. They had taken advantage for her in her weakest moment. He had 'let' her Lycan live because she could stop the rotting flesh problems he always encountered.
'Quit crying you stupid b***h. It's only a matter of time before I burry all of you.' He huffed at her inside her mind. 'If it wasn't for your stupid granddaughter escaping we would have parted ways my now.' He pushed her down taking over and marched out of her room. It was supper time. He loved torturing everyone.
Miriam slinked back into the darkness. She hated watching him and how he treated everyone. For the first time in a very long time she felt her Lycan try to comfort her. It felt good and filled her with warmth.
'It is time to stand and fight.' She heard the faintest whisper of a very familiar voice, her own.
