Isabella's POV
I didn't mean to spend a long time in the bathroom, but my mind was racing with so many thoughts that I lost count of time. However, Kealon didn't complain when I came out later. He seemed relaxed, like he knew I'd definitely spend so long there. Does he really have patience or was this still an act?
Well, I gave him just two months—just enough time for his true colors to show. Men could never hide their true nature for long anyway. Sooner or later, the mask covering Kealon’s real face would slip. Honestly, I had seen Brandon’s red flags too, but I was too blinded by love to acknowledge them.
I sat on the stool beside my vanity table and I began moisturizing my body. I didn't feel Kealon's gaze on me which meant he was either respectful or didn't find me attractive enough. I wish I didn't care but I was curious to know if he thought my body was nice.
“Way to go, Isabella. How would he even tell when you walked out in such a ridiculous huge robe?” A tiny voice said in my head and I rolled my eyes.
I was done moisturizing myself and I decided to pack my hair up, but for some reason l was having a hard time keeping my thick hair in place. “Argh, this is so frustrating,” I muttered annoyingly under my breath.
“Let me help,” Kealon said and he suddenly appeared before me. Before I could protest, his hand was already on my hair as he started tying it up.
My jaw dropped in awe when he was done. He did it so perfectly I was certain I wouldn't have to struggle with my hair against my face at night. “H-how did you know how to do this?” I couldn't help but ask.
He shrugged. “It's nothing.” But then he let out a small captivating smile and began, “Okay, the truth is I have a very clingy sister so I had to learn a thing or two about her. You can say she's a spoiled girl who likes to be pampered by her big brother.”
“Wow. This is nice.” I said, turning to the mirror again.
“But, if she's so clingy, why didn't she come for dinner? Isn't she curious to see who her big brother got married to?”
“Oh, Lucille ran away from home a year ago because my father tried to arrange a marriage for her. I think she's just as stubborn as you.”
“What? Are you not bothered about her safety?!”
Kealon shrugged. “Nah, she's fine. In fact, I'm the one who arranged the house she's staying in right now. I know where she is, what she's doing, and the people she's talking to. Everything.”
“Okay, so you're stalking her.”
Kealon let out a small laugh and again my cheeks heated. “I cannot say I'm stalking her if she knows I have eyes on her right?”
“But she'll be back soon though, as I've already made sure my father got rid of his fantasy of arranging my sister for a man she doesn't love. I wouldn't want that for her.”
“Wow, yet here we are. Funny.” My tone dropped with sarcasm.
He smiled and I swear to heaven, it was so beautiful. Yet, something told me he wasn't the type to smile often. Heck, it seemed like I was the only person he could tolerate, I could feel it.
“I'm confident you'll love me, princess. And if you don't, I'm going to love you so much for both of us.” My jaw dropped. How could he say such a thing with a straight face?
“U-uhm. You should have your bath, it's getting late.” I suggested breaking eye contact that lasted for too long. My cheeks were already burning and the room suddenly felt small.
He didn't say anything after this as he walked into the bathroom. Thankfully, I had a few men's clothes in my wardrobe, something I wanted to give to the warriors, but I ended up forgetting, so I arranged a t-shirt and shorts for Kealon, from the collection.
Soon, Kealon stepped out of the bathroom and I tried my best to keep my eyes off him, certain that I wouldn't be able to take them off if I mistakenly took his state in. I was very sure he would look too exotic so I kept my eyes off.
Maybe it was just me but it felt like he was taking too long getting dressed. But after what felt like hours, I felt him enter the bed and I turned to him. He was truly a sight to behold. A proof that the moon goddess had favourites.
I clapped twice and the bright lights went off, leaving just the dim red lights on. I didn't even bother to ask him if he preferred the light or not, as I had assumed a strong-looking man like him would prefer it off. And thankfully I was right, I didn't have to deal with sleeping with an eye mask like I did when I was sharing a bed with Brandon.
“Goodnight princess.” I heard him say but I didn't reply, pretending like I had already fallen asleep.
And soon after, I heard him say, “She's perfect.”
They say the third time is always the charm, and hearing Kealon saying this same word for the third time did something to me. I could hear the sincerity in his tone.
He really thought I was perfect. I never felt like I was good enough for Brandon, despite the love he showed, I could still feel it…his need for more. And because of that, I was always trying to please him, trying to work harder by taking care of the pups and him but I guess it was never enough.
Even though I was scared that Kealon might simply just be good with words, it was nice hearing someone being appreciative of me…the way I am.
