WORRIED

CHAPTER TWO. RHIANNON’S POV. The rest of the evening passes in a blur and I have not been at ease ever since Lucien revealed to me that it was his father who asked Layla to pick him up from school. That is not a good sign. During the first year of my marriage with the Alpha, Layla made my life a living hell. She turned everyone against me. The fact that I am an ordinary Omega only made matters worse. The pack members considered me of low status and opposed my mate-bond with the Alpha. The only person I had on my side was Alpha Fabien who kept encouraging me every day not to give up. He showered me with love and words of encouragement and that helped in building my confidence. I worked very hard to prove to the pack members that I was a worthy Luna and over the years, I have succeeded in proving that point. Right now, they love and respect me, even though there are still a few pack members who think I’m not worthy of being Alpha of this pack. Layla is a scheming b***h and I don’t want her getting close with my child. Just then, the bedroom door opens and Fabien walks in, looking exhausted like he always does whenever he comes home from his office. Being an Alpha is not an easy feat “Hey baby.” He calls sweetly, closing the door behind him. “Hello love.” I greet and go over to meet him. We share a passionate kiss and a brief hug before I look at him again, my mouth itching to start talking about what I just found out. “How are you doing?” He asks calmly and I force a smile. “Just well, Thank you.” “And Lucien?” “He’s doing alright. I just put him to bed.” “I’ll go give him a kiss after I’m done freshening up.” “Okay.” I clear my throat. “About Lucien, what’s going on? Why did you ask Layla to pick him up from school today?” I ask, trying my best to keep my voice to keep my voice calm despite the rage boiling in my chest. “I knew you were occupied with work, so I asked her to arrange for someone to pick Lucien from school. I had no idea she was going to do so herself.” He explains it so casually, like it was a normal thing for him to have assigned such a task to his ex-girlfriend whom he knows hates me very much. My anger rises to an all-new high level but I somehow manage to keep my cool. “I am his mother and it is my duty to assign who to go pick him up from school when I am unable to. You know that. Why did you choose her?” I ask firmly, staring deep into his eyes. He has not been in touch with Layla for years now and given the ugly history I have with her, I thought as my husband, he would keep his distance from her, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. “I chose her because she is now my secretary.” He announces and it takes a couple of seconds before his words start making sense to me. “What?” I ask in pure horror. “Wait a minute, when did this happen? And as Luna, why was I not informed of this first hand?” “Rhia, relax.” He says, placing both hands on my shoulders as though that’s going to make me feel any less angry than I already am right now. “It just happened. I’m just doing her father a favor. You know he’s the former Gamma of the pack and he risked his life countless times for my father while he served him. Before the Gamma passed away, he begged me to look after his daughter, Layla, in his absence and I promised him I was going to do that. That’s why I have made her my secretary.” His explanation doesn’t make me feel better one bit. I understand Layla's father’s sacrifice for the pack, but I’m still unhappy about the fact Fabien did not tell me about this arrangement. I don’t know why, but it feels as though he deliberately kept this away from me. Why would he do that? “Rhia, my love…” He takes my hands in his hold and brings them up to his lips, kissing them with his eyes zeroed on me. “I know this arrangement doesn’t sit well with you because of my past with Layla, but I assure you there’s nothing for you to be worried about. Nothing could ever happen between me and Layla again. Ever. You are my wife, Rhiannon and I love you with all my heart. I would die before I ever do anything to destroy this family. I swear.” He kisses my hands again before dropping them and then gently pulls me into his arms for a hug. His words have melted my heart completely and this big bear hug he has me engulfed in right now makes me feel so guilty. I definitely overreacted. Fabien loves me very much and he has proved that on countless occasions. It was stupid of me to have thought that he deliberately kept the information about Layla being his new secretary away from me because he was doing something fishy. “I’m sorry.” I apologize in a small voice as I shamefully look up to meet his warm gaze. “Seeing Layla here triggered some hurtful memories, that’s why I started thinking all sorts of things. I’m sorry.” “It’s okay. You don’t have to apologize.” He gently cubes my chin with his thumb and index finger and raises my head so that I’m staring straight into his dark brown eyes. “But you do know how much I love you, yeah?” I calmly nod my head. “I do.” “I think your memory is getting a bit foggy, love. After I’m done showering and eating and kissing our son good night, I will come back here and show you how much I love you, right there, on that bed.” He says, pointing to the king-sized bed that’s a few meters away from us and my face heats up. An observable blush spreads from my neck up to my cheeks as a shy smile creeps on my lips. “Shower while I bring your dinner.” I say shyly as I take his coat and his cellphone from his hand. “Yes, My Luna.” He kisses me once more before heading into our walk-in closet. I head over to the night stand on his side of the bed to keep his phone and just as I’m about to do that, his phone’s screen lights up as a text message chimes in. My heart twists suddenly when I see that it’s from Layla. And it reads: ‘Good night, my big wolf. I can’t wait to see you at work tomorrow.’ All the hairs on my body stand erect. I knew Layla being here was not a good sign. THE NEXT MORNING. “…And lastly, if he says he wants to shower with cold water, just shower him the cold water. Okay?” I tell the nanny who nods her head in agreement. “Yes, Luna.” “Great. You can go now.” “Thank you, Luna.” She bows before turning to leave. I gently close the room door and go back to meet my husband on the bed. I’m the one who always prepares Lucien for school in the morning, but after all the s*x I had last night with Fabien, I’m too exhausted to deal with Lucien’s hyper morning self today, that’s why I was giving his nanny instructions on how to go about getting him ready for school. The moment I get on the bed, Fabien pulls me close to his warm body and I snuggle into his arms like I’m not supposed to be preparing myself for work already. “I hope I wasn’t too hard on you last night.” He inquires and I look at him and smile. “You were perfect.” “How about we go for another round before….” His sentence is cut short by the sound of his ringtone. He turns away from me to pick up the phone from the nightstand and holds it above us to check the caller ID. My stomach rolls when I see Layla’s name on the caller ID. “Layla?” I blurt out without meaning to. “Why is she calling you at six in the morning?” “It’s surely about work.” “But it’s not even working hours yet.” “It must be important.” He defends and to my greatest surprise, ends the call instead of answering it. I stare at him, shocked. “Why did you end the call?” “Whatever it is she wants to tell me is not as important as this moment I’m having with you right now.” He says, putting the phone aside and pulling me closer to him. I’m supposed to be blushing and swelling with pride because of what he just said, but I’m not. On the contrary, I’m worried and suspicious about what’s going on. Fabien never ignores important calls. Ever! I feel like he’s hiding something. “So, before the interruption, I was trying to find out if we could…” “No. We can’t.” I deny flatly, pulling away from his hold and stepping down from the bed. “Why not?” “Because it’s past six and I have to start preparing for work.” I say and head to the closet, ignoring the bewildered look on his face. As I prepare myself for the hospital, my mind tortures me with imaginations and thoughts about what could really be going on between Fabien and Layla. The sight I’m met with when I go down to the living room after getting ready nearly drives me insane. Layla is comfortably seated on a sofa, with her legs crossed.
