CHAPTER SIX.
RHIANNON’S POV.
“No!” I scream, picking myself from the floor and rushing back to meet Fabien with my body cracking from pain. “That can’t be right. Lucien is your son, Fabien. I swear on my life! I have never cheated on you!” I say, heaving with sobs I can no longer suppress, my dignity dissolving in my tears, agony ripping my skin to shreds.
He looks like he’s about to set something on fire.
“Stop with the lies, Rhiannon.” Layla chimes in and looks back at the angry crowd. With the scathing glares they are giving me right now, I would not be surprised if they all suddenly pounced on me and beat me to death.
“Lucien is not the Alpha’s son.” She continues. “He is nothing but the biproduct of her affair with Alpha Alois Malin Vidal of the Supreme Crescent Pack.” She spews further lies and I am completely dumbfounded. The gullible crowd shrieks with horror. Some scream, others close their mouths to stop themselves from screaming. Fabien shoots me another murderous glare. His expression has turned granite.
This is just the height of it.
Alpha Alois Malin is the Lycan King of the entire werewolf and Lycan world. He is Fabien's sworn enemy and I’ve only met the man once in my life. I barely know the man. I have never had an affair with him or anyone else. I have done nothing but love and cherish my husband with my whole heart ever since we found out about our mate status.
Layla planned this. She did something to rig the ritual and make it play out this way so that I can be persecuted. She knows exactly what she’s doing by accusing me of having an affair with my Alpha’s enemy.
It is considered an act of treason and tantamount to a death sentence.
She wants me dead!
“No. She’s lying.” I cry out to the crowd, I cry out to my husband, but neither of them believes me.
“Her affair with the Lycan King resulted in her getting pregnant. A pregnancy which she planted on our Alpha. She made a fool out of every one of us, including our Alpha!”
“If you’re spreading lies just to take my husband, you can have him.” I say, my demeanor changing. It’s obvious crying won’t get me out of this mess. I have to stay strong and defend myself. “It’s obvious there’s something going on between the two of you since he hasn’t tried to defend me even once since you started raining all these accusations on me. He’s a cheater and I don’t want anything to do with him even if he’s the Alpha. But involving my son in this and trying to tarnish the bloodline of this pack? You’re just being evil. Stop lying to the subjects.”
“You are a traitor!” She screams at the top of her lungs. “Do you know how many people died on the battlefield, including my father, just because of you! This is how you repay them? By trying to make an enemy’s child the next Alpha of this pack?”
“That’s bullshit! I haven’t betrayed anyone and I have always been grateful for the Gamma’s sacrifice. Everybody knows that!” I fire back at the top of my lungs and she’s completely taken aback by my sudden courage.
“Then explain what just happened! Why didn’t Lucien’s blood resonate with Alpha Fabien’s? Why did it separate and turn black?” She asks, shooting me a menacing gaze with her eyes wide open. I go mute because I don’t have a response.
I have no idea why the Ritual failed.
“Rhiannon, I have had enough of your lies!” Fabien thunders and pushes me away from his closeness. I crash onto the floor, but rise up almost immediately to look back at him. “You slept with my enemy and made me raise his child, thinking he was my offspring. This is beyond betrayal, Rhiannon. This is treason. You took me for a fool.”
“No, I…”
“Be silent!” He roars and I shriek with fear. My words fall to the floor and shatter into pieces. “I can’t even look at your face anymore. You disgust me! For your treasonous act, I sentence you and your bastard child to death.”
“No!”
“Guards!” He thunders and immediately, a group of men dressed in black march over. “Seize them both and have them thrown in the dungeon.” He orders firmly and immediately, two of the scary looking men seize my arms and aggressively lift me to my feet. I start screaming and wailing when one of them picks up a crying Lucien and swings him over his shoulder like he weighs less than nothing.
“Let go of my son! Fabien no! This is wrong! I didn’t cheat on you. Layla is lying. You know she has always wanted to tear us apart; this is just one of her schemes. You have to believe me. I haven’t done anything wrong!” I scream so loud; my voice cracks and my throat starts to hurt.
“Take her away.” Fabien orders and the men start dragging me out of the hallway. I scream my lungs and wiggle my body in their hold and kick my legs in the air and swing my arms in an attempt to free myself from their hold, but all of that is in vain.
I finally ended up in a dungeon cell with my son.
“Mummy, this is all your fault. You are the reason why daddy is angry with us. I hate you!” Lucien cries as he rushes over to the skeletal bed at the other end of the tiny cell and lays on it, backing me.
Hot tears spill down my cheeks.
I don’t know if he understood anything that took place back in that hallway, but I hope he did not. I am frayed and falling apart. Too exhausted to think. My body is aching all over and I do not have a shred of energy left to start making Lucien understand that he is his father’s son.
One eternity later, I hear the sound of footsteps approaching our cell and I eagerly rush over to the barred door to wait, hoping it is Fabien. I have to talk to him. I have to do all I can to make him understand that this is all Layla’s ploy to tear our family apart so she can take my place in his life.
The person approaching finally arrives and to my greatest dismay, it’s not Fabien, but Layla.
