The creatures came at once.
Arin barely had time to breathe.
The first shadow wolf jumped toward him, its claws glowing with dark energy. Arin raised both hands.
“Stay back!”
A wall of blue fire exploded from his palms.
The creature was thrown into a tree.
But two others attacked from opposite sides.
Arin turned left.
Too slow.
One creature struck his shoulder, sending him crashing to the ground.
Pain burned through his body.
He looked at his palm.
The glowing mark had changed.
It was no longer blue.
It had become silver.
The forest suddenly became silent.
Every creature stopped.
Even the wind disappeared.
Arin slowly stood.
“What... is happening?”
A strange silver light began spreading from his palm across his arm.
The ancient voice returned.
“Now you remember.”
Arin's eyes widened.
“Remember what?”
A flash of images entered his mind.
A huge city floating above the clouds.
Warriors wearing silver armor.
A black tower surrounded by lightning.
And a woman holding a newborn child.
The woman looked directly at Arin.
She was crying.
“Hide his power,” she whispered. “If they discover who he is, they will destroy him.”
The vision disappeared.
Arin fell to one knee.
He could barely breathe.
Then the largest shadow wolf stepped forward.
Unlike the others, its body was covered with glowing black armor.
It opened its mouth.
A sphere of dark energy formed between its jaws.
Arin knew he could not escape.
The creature fired.
Arin closed his eyes.
The dark blast hit him.
But instead of being destroyed, Arin felt something awaken inside his chest.
A powerful heartbeat echoed through the forest.
BOOM.
The dark energy began disappearing.
Arin opened his eyes.
Silver light surrounded his entire body.
The creature stepped backward.
For the first time, it looked afraid.
Arin raised one hand.
The silver light formed a blade.
He swung it through the air.
A wave of energy crossed the forest.
The shadow creatures screamed and disappeared into black smoke.
Only the largest one remained.
It stared at Arin.
Then it lowered its head.
Not in fear.
In recognition.
“You are... the Heir.”
Arin froze.
“The heir of who?”
The creature smiled strangely.
“The one who once ruled the Seven Realms.”
Before Arin could ask another question, the creature dissolved into smoke.
Silence returned.
Arin looked at his hands.
The silver light slowly disappeared.
The voice whispered:
“Your true power is not creating magic.”
Arin waited.
“You can awaken magic that already exists.”
Arin looked toward the sky.
The clouds above him began glowing with silver light.
Far away, something enormous opened its eyes.
And for the first time in a thousand years...
the Seven Realms knew that their lost heir had awakened.
