Hurray. The get together party last week was too much fun. I actually got to have a full bottle of champagne all to myself. I even got drunk and had to be taken home by my friends. I just got terribly fortunate my parents didn't see me that way due to the discretion of my friends.
I am Esther Kalu and I just sat for my senior school certificate examinations popularly called WAEC. My classmates and a few rascally teachers put an after party or get-together, whatever you call it, to celebrate a successful passing out from Memorial High School Oromenike 2017/2018.
Now I lie on my bed, thinking about the wonderful times I had in high school. I would give anything to mKe high school last forever. But, everyone's gotta grow up someday right?
My mom is calling out to me. African moms though, who knows what she's calling me for. I answer "YES MUUUUM" in the loudest voice I can muster, which is not so loud and ended up sounding like Whitney Houston squealing, courtesy of girlhood. By the way, yes, I have a nice voice.
I knew it. Mum was calling me to ask if I have washed the plates. She knew I had. She just doesn't want me to be idle. She added that I should go get her some drugs from the pharmacy down the street. I lazily climb the steps back up to my room and grab a shirt as I only had a crop top on.
I really hope mum won't call on me anymore as I want to take my time to rest well after such examination stress. But guess what happened just a few minutes later. She called.
I answered "yes muuuuuum" drawling the mom to show how irritated I was. I went down the stairs at my slowest pace possible only to meet a sulking mom who asked if it would take me a century to come and find out why she was calling me. I almost sighed out if frustration were it not the news that came after that almost popped my heart out of my ribcage.
"Your uncle Kunle called to ask if you will also be sitting for jamb this year oh, I told him I would find out from you." She paused then continued " of course you know I'm kidding, I told him to go ahead and register you, that it is at the top of your desires list." She laughed heartily. I was rooted to the spot. My thoughts shattered and I couldn't form a single coherent thought. Jamb? Why me Lord? I wouldn't have gotten angry, but she was still laughing. Can someone please ask her why she's laughing. Oh God!
"My daughter is everything alright…? Mum enquired.
" I...yeh..Emm...yes." I stuttered and went back upstairs to my room to put myself together.
