Chapter 2: Forbidden Temptations

1078 Words
The next few days at work were a blur for Sophia. She couldn’t focus on her tasks as her mind was constantly drifting back to Ethan. The way his words had affected her, the way his touch had sent sparks through her skin—it all replayed in her mind like a vivid dream. She had tried to ignore it, to push it aside, but the pull between them was undeniable. She knew she shouldn’t feel this way, but every time he was near her, her body reacted against her will. Sophia found herself constantly searching for moments when she could be close to him. Their work meetings had become the highlight of her day. Ethan’s presence was like an electric current running through the room, charging everything around them. He was subtle, yet there was an intensity in his gaze that never seemed to waver when it was on her. He seemed to know exactly how to make her feel things she didn’t understand. Today, as they sat across from each other in a conference room, the tension was palpable. The room was quiet, save for the sound of keyboards tapping and papers shuffling. Yet, every time Ethan looked at her, Sophia felt the air shift. It was as if the world outside had disappeared, leaving only the two of them in a bubble of unspoken desire. Her fingers fumbled with the pen in her hand, her mind racing with thoughts of him. What was it about him that made her feel so vulnerable? So exposed? She had never allowed herself to fall into a situation like this, where everything was so unpredictable. But Ethan… he made her feel like she was falling. Her train of thought was interrupted when Ethan’s voice broke through the silence. “Sophia,” he said, his tone low and smooth, sending a shiver down her spine. “I need to talk to you about something.” She turned to look at him, her heart skipping a beat. He was staring at her intently, as if his gaze was peeling away her defenses one layer at a time. “What’s going on, Ethan?” she asked, trying to sound casual, though her voice betrayed her nervousness. Ethan leaned forward slightly, his lips curling into a mischievous smile. “I don’t think you’re being entirely honest with me,” he said, his eyes glinting with a mix of curiosity and something more dangerous. Sophia’s breath caught in her throat. “What do you mean?” she asked, her pulse quickening. “I mean,” Ethan said, his voice dropping even lower, “I know what you’re feeling, Sophia. I can see it in your eyes every time I look at you. You can’t hide it. You want me. And I want you too.” Her heart raced at his words. She had never imagined Ethan would be so bold, so forward. A part of her wanted to deny it, to push him away, but another part—the part she had been trying so hard to suppress—wanted to give in. She had never wanted anyone like this before, and it terrified her. “I—I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sophia stammered, though her body betrayed her. She could feel the heat rising in her cheeks, and her hands trembled ever so slightly. Ethan reached out, gently placing his hand on hers. The touch sent a jolt of electricity through her, making her heart race even faster. “You don’t have to lie, Sophia,” he whispered, his voice barely above a breath. “I can feel it. You want this as much as I do. And we both know what’s about to happen.” The room felt smaller, suffocating even, as he leaned closer to her. She could smell his cologne—spicy and intoxicating—and it made her head spin. She was so close to him now, she could feel the warmth of his body radiating toward hers, and for a moment, everything else faded away. There was nothing but Ethan, and the undeniable chemistry between them. Sophia’s breath came in short, uneven bursts. She was torn between pulling away and giving in to the intense longing she felt deep inside. She had spent so many years building walls around herself, protecting herself from this very feeling. But now, with Ethan standing so close, those walls were crumbling. “I can’t,” she whispered, though her voice was weak, filled with desire. “I don’t know if I can do this.” Ethan’s smile was soft, but there was an edge to it—a knowing, confident edge. He didn’t say anything at first, just watched her with that intense gaze of his, as though waiting for her to make up her mind. “You don’t have to do anything, Sophia,” he said, his voice filled with an undeniable intensity. “But I want you to know that when you’re ready, I’ll be here.” Sophia’s heart skipped a beat. He was giving her the control, the power. And that’s what made it so difficult. She wasn’t used to this kind of vulnerability, this kind of raw honesty. Ethan wasn’t pushing her, but she knew he wanted her, and the thought of him wanting her so badly made her heart race. Before she could say anything else, the door to the conference room suddenly opened, and their colleague, Mark, walked in, breaking the moment. Ethan pulled away, his eyes locking with Sophia’s for a split second before he stood up and turned to face Mark. Sophia’s breath was still heavy, her body aching for the touch she had almost allowed herself to have. She quickly stood up and grabbed her bag, trying to compose herself. “I—I’ll see you later, Ethan,” she said, her voice a little shakier than she wanted it to be. Ethan’s smile was enigmatic as he gave her a knowing look. “I’ll be waiting, Sophia,” he said softly, his words lingering in the air like a promise. As she walked out of the room, Sophia couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation building inside her. The temptation was becoming too strong, and the suspense was unbearable. She didn’t know what was going to happen next, but she knew one thing for sure—things were about to change, and there was no going back.
