Josephine had met me and my entourage on our way to the Eagle’s Nest. We were a day’s drive away. Using her MindShield and a mild sedative, she had run off with me into the night.
This may sound frightening, but I was never frightened, once she explained to me that she knew who I really was.
“I don’t have time to explain anything, Genevieve,” she whispered right before I succumbed to sleep.
In addition to enrolling me in karate, jujitsu and other human martial art classes all over earth, we had spent the last four years gathering as much information as possible. I would probably be safe in the Death Moon pack, since Alpha Khane was agreeable to a betrothal 18 years ago. But did I WANT to go there? Would he expect me to wed his still bachelor son?
My wolf was getting restless. My 18th birthday and the next full moon were in 10 days. My wolf wanted her mate. I wanted to shift finally—and I kind of wanted a mate, too.

“I think Stonehenge will be the perfect place to celebrate your birthday and first shift,” Josephine announced.
“Seriously?” I squealed with delight. The last four years had been nothing but isolated education and training. Josephine was no werewolf, but she had been around them more than anyone else I’d ever met, including Sophia. Josephine had known my parents, had delivered me and had kept me safe, but I was ready to finally come of age and let the world know who I was!!
Ok, maybe I’d still keep my identity a secret. I topped out at 6 feet even in height. Not completely unheard of for a human woman to be that tall. I could blend in, if I chose to do so.
I took martial arts from as many places we traveled as possible. We didn’t stay in one place long. We knew the Guardians were concerned about what happened to me and Josephine. No one knew my identity that we were aware of, but Sophia had guessed at my heritage and we didn’t know if rumors about a missing alpha female child had spread to earth or not.
Rumor had it my betrothed still hadn’t found a mate, but we were careful not to ask direct questions. We sat in cafes and coffee shops in far corners of the world where I could overhear conversations. Despite what Sophia had told me, werewolves did visit earth, though not in high numbers.
With the Mind Shield I was learning to manage myself, I could disguise my scent. I could detect where werewolf tourists hung out so we knew where to stay a while. I eavesdropped with my keen hearing.
When I wasn’t eavesdropping , I was training. I restricted myself in the presence of my human instructors, but back at wherever Josephine and I were staying and under the shields Josephine built to hide our whereabouts, I practiced hard. It was no warrior training, but by human standards, I earned a black belt. We thought I could defend myself if needed.
I learned that Juanita’s names for most of the orphans had at least some basis in what the child’s parents had chosen—if that information was known. My parents had planned to call me Jenny or Ginny.
Josephine had not seen the paperwork when the attack hit so wasn’t sure of the exact name they had chosen, or what it was short for. She had only heard the name and with what Josephine called an Irish accent.
I liked that Jenny or Ginny made sense as a shortened version of Genevieve. I started using Triplett as my official last name and when asked for a middle name, I used my mother’s name, Allyson.
I didn’t know what my future held, but, with a birthday on May 1, also known as Beltaine, I was somehow drawn to celebrating at Stonehenge. It was almost as if the Moon Goddess commanded it. Stonehenge was also near where Josephine had landed from the Silver Moon Realm with my injured parents. Though I’d never seen Stonehenge, it was calling me.
It would seem everything happens for a reason.
